The G1 rebreather Hi all, at risk of getting flamed I have posted a description of this very d-i-y challenged homebuild to the library. Constructive criticism most welcome - but those like Dave Sutton who produce beautifully machined equipment may wince a bit! See http://www.rebreatherworld.com/home-...ine-dives.html Cheers, Charles. ![]() Last edited by solocavediver : 13th July 2006 at 21:20. Reason: (insert link)

Re: The G1 rebreather Charles, you have created a thing of beauty. To all those that said rebreathers had to be expensive, proof if ever it were needed! Wonderful. I particularly liked the shutoff for the mouthpiece. And the use of copper pipes. Digs.

Re: The G1 rebreather Digger, you are very kind. Perhaps, too kind!!: "Charles, you have created a thing of beauty. To all those that said rebreathers had to be expensive, proof if ever it were needed!" About the expensive bit, yes I did enjoy pretending I couldn't posssibly afford to get a 2nd hand Inspo. Also I thought, well, the first thing I'm going to want to do is go in sidemounty caves where a big box on the back is a bit of a no-no. Likewise Okidiver is too too kind - "Incredible--my search for the perfect rebreather is, at last, coming to a conclusion." Mixaddict asks "Is it necessary for the socks to be clean prior to installation?". To answer this, I suspect that the microbes that live in smelly socks like an acidic environment and probably wouldn't flourish in the strongly alkaline scrubber. Nonetheless I decided not to risk this, and bought long polyester cotton socks new for the purpose (I suspect that the sodalime might eat nylon socks, but polycotton socks seem to be inert). Andy M hits an issue which I am thinking about when he asks "Absolutely fantastic. Now please, please, can we have a picture of you actually diving it at Stoney Cove, with a report on what was said to you by various people". Now I am aware that Stoney is the most heavily populated dive site in the UK (possibly the world ), but you probably won't see me there because I am after all a cavediver and I tend to regard quarry dives as "Pale Imitations of the Real Thing". However now the G1 has come out of the closet on this forum, I will probably soon go and use it at the popular divers' location at Wastwater, rather than hiding myself away at an empty nearby inlet as has been my practise up to now. There, some real divers will see me and we will get some real comments. Photos of me using it are going to be taken soon too, I hope; I just haven't yet got to arranging an underwater photoshoot and would like to have that, not just a photo of me wearing the gear...work calls, cheers, Charles. ![]()

Re: The G1 rebreather Two thumbs up there Charles, How soon before the CE rated model comes out? Actually, it sort of reminds me of "science fair" projects from my long distant adolescent past. I like it. Darlene
