Simply and good IDEA!!!

which type of tap you have used?
A very cheap plastic tap for big water cans. They cost something like 1-2$ around here. Its secured by a threaded nut that has to be cut to fit on the inside of the KIP-mouthpiece. An o-ring or more like a rubber gasget makes it watertight.

I made a few for my and my friends KIP-8's and also used it in a few pendelum style O2-Rebreather.

I think I have some left so I will see if I can take a picture of how they look and what I did to modify them for DSV-use.

Re: Kip-8

what you might want to be carfull with is using the original lung, it streches like a baloon and when you get in a head down position, the second stage will start to free flow and wont stop because the lung will just keep streching, that is why i went with the BG-174 bag in the above post, It would work with that bag if you had manual addition only, this was a problem i had in the first pool dives. Sounds resonable. But I have not noticed that.
If the lung is "boxed in" by the cylinder, scrubber and casing it cannot expand to badly. That is as long as the OPV is working.

Re: Kip-8

Jaap.......

which are the modifications that you have made to the kip8?

do you use the original auto add valve???

..i'm thinking to replace the original orifice (2,5 l/min) with that one of the rgufm (0,9 l/min)....if mechanically compatible.....

if I remember the intermediate pressure of original kip8 is similar to rgufm ....etc....

but...this is only an idea

My KIP-8's only gather dust. That is when I'm not taking parts from them for other projects.

But yes I have dived them a few times. The flow can be blocked. If you are lucky you could detune the original ADV (no sucess guaranteed).

If I would convert one to make an O2-Rebreather I would put an DIN-Air valve on the original cylinder, use a regulator and make a manual bypass out of say a BCD-addvalve. Then either use some cheap plastic valve for DSV or buy a proper DSV.

Clean high pressure O2-parts would be a good idea.

I think the KIP-8 is too limited and too much work for making an mccr.
