Have been as busy as ever, lots of neat projects have passed over the bench but I've been quiet about them for a while. The first time that I take any flame-war crap for anything I'm history...... I don't need to spend time defending my methods, do not need to waste effort dealing with people who have their own political agendas to put forth, and just want to go diving and have fun. No time for stress in my life. Just de-select pea-brained weenies from my screen and I'll be OK... ;-). Wow - that sure is a long parapgraph from a new member on ego centric nonsense that ruined your previous particpation - I guess I must have missed your previous participation on here as we dont tolerate crap from any one. It's a friendly place where all are welcome as long as mutual politeness is given. In fact If I see any one making cheap shots at valued members they just won't be welcome here so no need to worry.....

| Re: Hey Dave! It wasn't participation *here*, it was participation in the old-generation general internet rebreather community (IE the old Rebreather List) that caused me to withdraw my particiation. The flame wars and nonsense were causing a real problem in real life. I swore I would never deal with the internet as a forum again, but was latterly encouraged to re-engage by my dear friend Jens, who you all know here. So..... another attempt at discourse is underway. Glad for all the encouraging emails, especially from the many friends who I remember well. It's good to be back. As long as the moderators do their jobs, we'll all have fun. FIGJAM, eh?.... Glad to see humor has not deserted us. Best to all, Dave Sutton

Quote: (Originally Posted by Decodiver) Hi Dave, Personally would be very interested to see a writeup of the frount mounted Castoro bailout system in conjunction with the back mounted unit. Cheers, dave Cooper. OK..... but who said I used a Castoro for a bailout system? ;-). That would be so "in the box"... let's go WAY outside the box here. The idea of a bailout loop has fascinated for years. Originally I used a chest mounted old-style horsecollar BC with a simple pendulum scrubber installed in the oral inflation hose. I used actually an old Fenzy vest, which has (nicely enough) a 0.5 litre inflation bottle included. I ran the main rig (Mark-15) diluent to the BC, filled the small inflation cylinder with 02, and did little more (OK, 1 cell PP02 metering too). Tom Rose showed a basic copy of this on his website, it's a very simple trick. To use, just fill the BC with a puff of diluent, stick the oral inflator in your mouth (the Fenzy one has a mouthpiece) and start breathing. Add 02 as required and/or just add more diluent to bring in fresh 02 now and then after a nose-vent. Worked fine. Scrubber was a little small. Prototype 2: Made a set of wings with a scrubber *across the back of the divers neck*. Made the scrubber there a soft one (IE *fabric*) accessed thru a short drysuit zipper (IE a piss-relief zipper) thru which the 'sorb was added and used flexable fabric screening to keep the 'sorb from migrating into the wings. Scrubber lays across the back of the divers neck. Even if the loop gets some water in it, this area stays dry. Centroid is good so WOB is low. Used a normal loop hose set (Draeger Ray) into the wings, using P-Connectors on the wings and the 90 degree plug-ins on the loop hoses from the Ray. A drysuit inflation valve was installed on the lower right corner of the wings for 02 injection. An old BC inflator was modified to feed into a T connector in the exhale hose to act as a diluent add port (as well as for normal wings inflation.... remember that the system is *also* the divers normal BC system). A ripcord-type dump valve was used for normal deflation (IE you can no longer hold the oral inflator hose over your head to dump gas for bouyancy use). Other than that, anyone who dives a set of wings now can toss this on and never lknow nhe has a rebreather on his back. A block was added to the inhale hose and (2) K1D sensors installed feeding displays. Bottom line: I've got a bailout rebreather that is also my wings. Since I'm *using it* it's kept at least at ambient pressure and as a result the scrubber does not flood (which is THE problem with "sealed" (IE non-inflated, collapsed) secondary loops). This problem is a show-stopper for ALL other second loops. These loops cannot be "static" (IE sealed)or they flood. They need to be "dynamic" (IE always filled with some gas) so the scrubber stays dry. And there is also the (3rd) prototype which is, in fact, a modified P-96 (not C-96) 02 rig, the pendulum hose being far easier to stow than a double loop hose set). And the 4th prototype..... old Viking suit doing double duty as a counterlung.... think about that for a minute. Drysuit = counterlung. You figure it out. Don't fart (or eat good stuff in any case.....) Enough of interest to think about for a day? Sorry for short writeup, trying to beat a deadline out of the house for an appointment I need to keep this AM. Questions answered later. No photos, this system has commercial potential and I cannot show all of it's features as, for once, I might like to actually sell something I designed.. ;-) Dave Sutton

Here you will find "the usual suspects", some great new folks, and a couple bozo's too. Just like everywhere. The difference here is excellent moderation. So, free speech is somewhat curtailed, but that could be a good thing in some cases. Every now and then one wants to call a bozo, a bozo, when He/she may well deserve it, but...one must have cautious and meticulus use of language so that the moderators dont quite understand your intention, but the receipent gets the hint. Keeps it civil ya know Dave T. you have officially been awarded 2 demerits by the FIGJAM commitee director, see that you keep up to date on the monthly minutes in the future. However, since Dave did actually serve on the HMCS Yukon (or was it the sister ship?) He could get his dander up on the mis-labeling, whether intentional or not. God save the Queen!!
