| Still Learning.... Current Rebreather/s: | Travel Rebreather? Has anyone ever developed a home-brew rebreather with the aim of making it travel (i.e. airline baggage restriction of 20 to 25kg) friendly when added to all the other other diving kit? This would IMHO mean a general scaling down of the unit (smaller scrubber, smaller cylinder(s) etc.) and might result in a unit that was really only suitable for use in combination with more readily available recreation open circuit kit. I can sort of envisage something that is used in combination with a standard OC BC, cylinder and regulator (hired locally?) has a small O2 (1 or 2 litre) cylinder the diluent being derived from the OC kit with the scrubber and O2 cylinder mounted either side of the (probably) back mounted 12 litre (pony style). I appreciate that Drager and others have gone some way along this route but would be interested to see if anyone has pushed this to extremes and what practical problems they may have experienced. BTW I'm not thinking (or even capable) of designing/building one I'm just interested. Ant S

| Re: Travel Rebreather? (travel = unit sans tanks, of course) Dave Sutton's would qualify: http://www.nobubblediving.com/mini.htm although travel wasn't his stated motivation. I can't find the URL, but there is a page somewhere (was?) from a Brit who had integrated a Buddy BCD into his system as a counterlung.. expressly for travel purposes.. Maybe he's here on RBW? ... --dan |

| Re: Travel Rebreather? Another one that i haven't heard about now for a long long time is the travel kiss. Small and clever. Everything could be packed in the unit itself. My guess is that releasing it would have spoiled the market for the Sports KISS so ....... ![]()

My sidemount cave diving units broke down pretty small and relied on my driving them from locally borrowed O2 and diluent tanks. Weight 6 kg empty. Holds 3.3 kg sorbant and requires another 4 kg trim weights. You could wear the dil/bailout backmounts (doubles even) and sling some O2 the opposite side from the 'breather. |

| Re: Travel Rebreather? Dave’s small units is here- http://www.therebreathersite.nl/worl...cr_by_dave.htm However, it is chest mounted unit. Sweet….. The Brit was Bob Howell and the unit was the ‘go anywhere.” He mounted the scrubber behind his head and then ran the hoses into a buddy BC and out the chest. The BC unit could be used for open circuit or closed circuit. Shoulder connects had caps for diving OC. This was Pre- Optima. ![]() Website is no more. Tom Rose has built some interesting units. ![]() The ultimate older unit is still the TP2000 by Will. If you have ever had the honor to walk into a Harley Davidson store and ask for a motorcycle tube and not care what motorcycle it is for- it’s priceless. ![]() Now we have the sports kiss. Andrew

| Re: Travel Rebreather? Quote: (Originally Posted by Beanie) Is that not the Sport KISS It was originally referred to as the Travel. There are pics floating around ![]() showing the case to be flexible, more like a bag made of cordura (or the like). I imagine such a unit would have been quite light. --dan |

I used my TR300 at travel, you can put it together with a 10 or 12 Liter cylinder (you get most on the divesite with EAN 32 or EAN 36 ). I have done this with my normal rec jacket. have a look here (specialy the last picture ) http://www.tr300.de/divetube.htmlHolger
