| Re: Travel Rebreather? HI I am currently trying to build a very small and travel-friendly mCCR, based on the TR300 compact of Holger. Currently the unit is completely taken apart waiting for some machining etc. It would break Holger's heart to see the baby in its current state.. I am still looking for good material for the CL and haven't decided on the geometry and placing of the lungs in general (OTS, back mounted....)The whole project may take a few more weeks (i.e. months), I will post pictures as soon as its ready Jens |

I hope the parts will inspire you to build a nice rig yes that was mine first idea on building a very compact, travel rebreather, but i have to less time to bring the project in a small build. I very happy in see some pictures if the rig comes to it final state. regrads Holger We have now also a small solution for the TR300 as an eCCR ![]()

| Re: Travel Rebreather? I have taken the MEG to ST Martin, Bonaire (twice) Dominican Republic, Florida all on different airlines. I've inclosed a PIC as you put the MEG in the Flight Attendants bag, you can usually sneak in the 2 regulators. Then you carry a small soft backpack, which carries the breathing hoses and lungs, Bailout Regulators and the backup VR3. The backpack fits under the seat and the attendants bag fits in the overhead no problems. If I should get to the island and no clothes make it the its just get me a mask, rent me some small tanks and I'm set to go. Later Paul Pic of bags at Bostons Logan |

| Re: Travel Rebreather? Like Duncan I built a sidemount rebreather. The idea was that I'd use a normal backmount OC set up with the sidemount Rebreather as a stage using a take-off from the backmounts for diluent and a separate small O2 drive bottle. It worked well when I kept it small (Draeger Ray can, single lung, KISS valve, simple monitoring), it was when I scaled it up with a scrubber from an EDO-4 and extra fanciness that it went, as we say this side of the pond, a bit Pete Tong. In it's small stage I used to house it in a caving bag: http://www.lizardland.co.uk/RB/RB_Pr.../071104-01.jpg Now I think why bother, if I'm on holiday I can't be bothered with the hassle of a Rebreather -- I'm happy freediving or hiring some kit locally. If it's a big trip then I'd rather have my SK which I trust completely. When I flew it back from Cyprus it was only 17kg on the airport weigh in.

| Re: Travel Rebreather? This was my intention with my IDA. I know the case is metal (aluminium), but take out the two, 2ltr cylinders and it only weighs 3 kg. The case can be put into a normal suitcase, then filled with normal travel items, eg toiletries, even cloths, so doesn't take up that much room. I have designed it to accept any wing/BCD so those could be hired abroad, together with cylinders of 1.5, 2 or 3 ltrs. The only other items to take would be the two 1st stages, DSV/hoses and triple displays which fit into a small hand luggage bag.

| CK+Shearwater Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Travel Rebreather? HI Ant, Purely out of interest, while preparing my SK for this weekend and had it in pieces I tried to see what was the minimum weight/amount of bits I could pack and still make it workable, turns out 95% of it can fit inside the counterlung case which fits inside my expandable Laptop/handluggage bag. Its "slightly" more than the reccomended 7kilos but if you don't struggle with it I doubt anyone would notice. Incidentally it also in this state takes up just 1/4 of a regular size suitcase. Obviously this all assumes you can rent tanks where you are going. I was under the impression the Travel KISS mutated into the Sport KISS during the design phase, was a nice idea though... anyone thought of making a foldable SK case? BEN

Why ?As you have seen, everything fits inside the case when packed so it protects the components. Also, it would save no space at all making it foldable. There is no unit that packs smaller than the SK. |
