| Re: K1 project page INCLUDING publically-available files Its 6" DR11 PE3408 pipe. About $7/foot from a place out in Pennsylvania (and they WILL sell cut pieces - they had no problem shipping me a 6' piece, which can go UPS.) (HDPE pipe distributor and HDPE pipe fabrication specialists.) 5.349" nominal ID, 6.625" nominal OD. ~.6" wall thickness. Damn near indestructable, yet it takes a tap reasonably well (for the feed of exhale gas); the thinner wall stuff would likely have a problem with seal integrity on that. Top and bottom lid pieces (two) are made from Delrin; the bottom scrim is also Delrin, all for strength reasons (the bottom scrim is bolted to the bottom of the can). The top scrim is made from HDPE. Sheet materials from McMaster. A "full fill" is calculated out to be right around 5 to 5-1/2 lbs of Spherasorb. The pin points are being set for a "full fill" (about 1" below the bottom of the sensor carriage when completely filled up) and a "half fill", roughly 3lbs, for times when I'm going to go do a couple of recreational, no-deco dives in the <130' range - which I do a lot around here.

| Re: K1 project page INCLUDING publically-available files Absolutely, if we can get there. Even if I decide against registering for the show (and I may, as I'll have my kid with me, and she can't get in - I could qualify as I run a forum for diving, which is technically "media") I'll do my darndest to make the party. I wonder how they'd feel about me coming into the party building with it on my back and breathing off it? ![]()

| Re: K1 project page INCLUDING publically-available files Late update.... got things assembled enough to actually put it on (as a pack, with plate/wing) and step on a scale. Looks like 45lbs empty (no gas or sorb) w/o battery and handset. My guess is that it will come in somewhere around 60lbs "ready to dive", including the wing and plate, with AL19s. Not bad, and not THAT far off a full singles config (AL80 is 32lbs empty, figure a SS plate and STA (8lbs) to counteract the buoyancy of the tank empty, then your wing (~3lbs?) and you're at 42. It'd be lighter with 13s, of course. Since the lightest set of doubles I own is 70lbs dry (double 72s) this looks to be a real treat!

| Re: K1 project page INCLUDING publically-available files I'm guessing within 2 weeks. Right now I'm doing test "casts" of the potting system I have made up for the amplifier board. That's the only remaining piece - I've got all the fittings and such. I've also got to do static tests (as an O2 rebreather) on the scrubber, etc - that'll get done here shortly, likely within the week. Quick "no sorb included" breathing (not too much now, since that's literally the "bag over head" situation!) seem to indicate that WOB is extremely low - certainly not anything to worry about. The unit also passes positive and negative tests (when I put the clamps on the hoses!) and actually will pass both with two of the four latches off (as long as they're across from each other) on either the lid or bottom of the can. The latter was a pleasant surprise. Another amusing reality - even including all the equipment and tooling I've bought, I still haven't spent as much as any of the commercial eCCRs cost, and of course I still own all the machines and they're quite useful for other things! For those who say "it can't be done at anything reasonably approaching commercial quality and diveability", I think its about to be demonstrated that this is complete and utter BS. I may still come up with something that's a show-stopper or something that forces a major redesign effort (which of course will make things even more expensive), but it is looking increasingly unlikely.

(Apologies if I have this wrong but IIRC you haven't dived an Rebreather before?) BTW, will you be getting hold of manuals for other units to give yourself an idea of likely failures and the remedies? Because you've also saved yourself the cost of a unit-specific MOD 1 course! ![]() Might be good to run through the drills - you'll have it doubley-tough, new unit and new skills to learn. Would be useful if your buddy was Rebreather-aware too. Just a thought.
