If you know the loop volume (roughly), you should be able to inject some O2 and see what happens to the sensors. See which respond in the way you would expect. Because injecting O2 is not safe in the event the loop is already hyperoxic.Injecting DIL, provided you are above the MOD, is always safe - regardless of whether you are hyperoxic or hypoxic it moves the loop PO2 in the correct direction (although not by much if you're against the MOD and the loop is indeed hyperoxic) First-blush says if the computer is driving and cannot determine a loop PO2 due to no congruence you inject DIL. However, the problem with that if the computer is doing it is that this shifts buoyancy significantly, so unless you can flush the loop under computer control (not just inject) you have bigger problems if the diver is non-responsive. If we assume the computer can control loop volume (that is, it can evacuate as well as inject gas) and it has control of both O2 and DIL then a failed sensor pack can be managed - at least until gas runs out. The computer could under that circumstance perform injections and evacuations in proportions guaranteed to provide a safe breathing loop in terms of PO2, even regardless of diver workload (within some sort of limit), and use the depth sensor to keep the diver at constant depth. Indeed with known metabolic rates (which can be computed if you're clever) and control of both injection and dump the computer could conceivably SURFACE an unconscious but breathing diver, performing all mandatory decompression automatically! (Granted, this would require some form of ballast control to manage the issues that would arise with the wing and/or exposure suit.) This is not beyond the computational ability of the controller that I am using - it does, however, require hardware that is not currently in my design ![]()
