| Re: Torche Project Maybe a Q5 led Or a P7 led with a awesome prism. The R2 is the new Q5 . But to be honest a can light is over kill for a single emitter LED based light.I have a small backup with a Q5 and aspheric lens using a single 2500ma Li Ion cell that delivers 200+ lumens for 2 hours + The P7 is a nice LED but with 4 dies it is hard to get a tight focus (if that is what you are after). Below are 4 beams from 4 diffrent dive light projects of mine. Left.... a 13watt Trail tech HID 6 deg. Quite disapointing and I never finished this project Centre... Single P7 (C bin)at 2.8amps and 2 inch reflector. Quite impressive for 9watt consumption with a nice amount of spill light. Right....4 x Q5's driven at 1400ma each with asperic lenses. Next to no spill. 8.3 deg beam. Top Single.....Q5 aspheric as noted above. ![]() Bottom line. Forget single LED. You will be disappointed as soon as you dive with someone with a multi LED light or decent HID. Cram as many Q5's or R2's in as you can fit/drive.

| Re: Torche Project Although you will need some way to dissipate the heat and Im not sure if you will have much success with that using a PVC light head.

My 7 LED vesrion I'm diving the most, but very seldome with more than 50% ~3 LED's Makking your own aluminium head is easy doinf as you have a mill. Mike. P.S. I had in earlier days problem with PVC, as it get smooth when heated and togeather with pressure, f.y. 40m, it changes form = flooding. Also keeping the power LEDs is important for the efficency factor ! |

It's like a "jedi swort" :-) Sorry got the "colliminator" from a friend, saw it also on the internet, but cant remember where. If I'm not wrong it's quite expensive, 15 - 20€. And diameter was also bigger than usual Forgot to make enough photos ;-( before I glued it together. Mike |
