Ida-76 Adv

After a few days of patient waiting my IDA-76 arrived tonight and I began the cleaning and inspecting process.

As suggested in a post elsewhere, I cut the original connector off the low pressure line to the ADV and replaced it with a barbed fitting from an old BC inflator hose.

I noticed a couple of issues:

1. The original LP hose from the CL is quite short, limiting my options for connecting an O2 cylinder somewhat.

2. The gas delivery from the ADV to the DSV was a bit pathetic when I breathed the CL down to empty. Looking at the barbed fitting I added to the IDA LP hose it has a much smaller internal diameter than all my reg hose fittings.

I have a possible solution - I see that there is a crimp fitting (looks a bit like an hourglass) at the CL end of the IDA LP hose. Presumably there's a barbed fitting in the middle sticking out of the CL. If I remove the crimp I should be able to fit an old reg hose by cutting off the reg end and crimping onto the original barb.

I believe this should solve both problems, provided that there is a hose barb sticking out of the CL. If anyone knows different please let me know before I whip out Mr Dremel.

Re: Ida-76 Adv

Hi
remember that adv is used only to replace o2 thet you have eat......
If you also want a more high flow, probably the flow throught a bc connector don't is the max possible and you can use a quick disconnect with more large diameter like a qd for a poseidon unisuit.
please, don't make irreversible mods on your 76. I use it with only mod of the more large bottle, only this.....and dont use any toy to open or close the scrubber.....

Either:

(A): Drill out the barb fitting (the ones for BC inflator hoses are deliberately restricted so that if a BC hose blows, it does not empty the cylinder rapidly)

or

(B): Extricate another barb fitting from a regulator supply hose. This will not have the restriction included.

Guaranteed to fix your ills.

Re: Ida-76 Adv

Hi

Sounds like you already cut your ADV-hose. But below is a picture of how I arranged a BCD-feed with "bonus" shutoff valve to the IDA-76 in a non destructive way. The brass part is an adaptor from R-1/4" to UNF-3/8. The valve is really only there to serve as an adaptor from the Russian ADV-hose coupling to an R-1/4". The valve was taken from the small emergency bladder inflation cylinder that comes with the IDA-76.

Anyway, about your pathetic ADV-flow, I'm not convinced that the poor flow has to have anything to do with a potential restriction from your add on fitting.

My experience is that the IDA-76 ADV can be hard to trigger if you are in a head up position, especially if you are not "sucking" for gas. There could also be an adjustment problem. If you unscrew the ADV cover & membrane you should find a screw to adjust the lever that is pushed by the membrane. It was a few years ago so I don't recall exacly how it looks, could be that you also need to undo the tape & thread that holds the ADV to pop it out to be able to adjust it.

Have you read the things about redoing the internal T-piece on the inhale side to avoid auto directing an eventual caustic cocktail straight to your mouth (modifying it should also help reduce the BOV a little)? Also look out for dodgy solderings between the two serial scrubbercompartments and for any damage to the exhale hose running through the inhale bag, if you have a built in bypass a sneaking CO2-hit is rather likely.
