| IDA-76 Counterlung Question Whilst I wait for the ЯЕАРЕЯ to arrive from dshop2005 i've been getting ready for the simple changes outlined in my last post. I have a 1.5 litre O2 cylinder ready to go, and I hope to connect this direct to the ADV. I plan to leave the original rig intact, so I will replace the existing hose from the O2 cascade to the ADV with one from my Mk25 to the ADV (1/4" BSP IIRC). From the diagram in the manual it appears the connection to the ADV is internal, so at some point the MP hose must enter the counterlung. I cannot work out how the counterlung seals around the hose, and would be grateful for any information/photos so that I can order the necessary parts to replace the original hose. CC Just cut the original hose off at the fitting, and use a barb-fitting and Oetger crimp to add the fitting of choice there and use it. It'll be obvious when you have it in hand. You can add a 3/8-24 fitting with ease (cut one off an old BC inflator hose) and have the hose then fit any standard first stage. Piece of cake. Dave .

Presumably there's a swagelock barb to 3/8-24 fitting to do the job, if you have a part number that would be nice, as I spent the best part of an hour searching last night to no avail. I did see this fitting (A0500 towards the bottom of the hoses page) but it seems a lot of money and I wasn't sure if it would fit the existing IDA hose. As regards the BC hose, I've never had to take one apart - mine appears to be crimped onto the outside of the hose - surely I don't just prize the crimp free and re-use it? CC |

| CK#69 Current Rebreather/s: | Re: IDA-76 Counterlung Question Thanks. Surely what Dave means is to chop the end that plugs into the inflator off and chuck it in the bin, then use a crimp fitting to secure the hose end to the barbed fitting. That way you can connect the OTHER end to any first stage of your choice.OK. Naah..... Think outside the box, man! . Dave Pye has it right. Hack Away! All you do is to take any old BC hose, put the end in a vise, cut off the (chromed brass) swaged-ferrule, and extract the fitting for re-use. Stick it into the hose and use an ear-crimp to secure it. I'll send a handful of crimps if needed. Takes a few minutes. To cut the ferrule off, cut diagonally with a saw, starting at the hose end and work towards the fitting. Rotate the fitting in the vise a few times to keep access to the cut as you go. Rip the ferrule off with pliers after it's about 90% cut thru. The ferrules are VERY thin and cut like butter with a sharp saw. Dave .

| Re: IDA-76 Counterlung Question Thankyou. I did wonder if there was a barb in there, but didn't want to wreck the hose until I was sure. I'll get onto it. CC |
