| Re: CO2 sensor design What about ATR sensors? Only looking at one specific wavenumber should make this feasible. The diamond prism might be a bit too expensive though ![]() Greets Dirk

| Re: CO2 sensor design Fascinating thread guys! I've always wondered if people were looking for CO2 detection capabilities. I found sensors like these last night: Gas Sensors But I figured there has to be some limitation, moisture or pressure. In regards to color changing sorb and optically detecting that and feeding an alarm... I think I can see a number of potential failure modes. I had thought about the same thing some time ago. An office building I worked in had a CO2 sensor on the wall in a meeting room, and when someone mentioned it I immediately thought of re-breathers. It's nice to know the difficulties of implementing the technology used in those HVAC automation sensors on Rebreather's. |

They use a heated wire, which does not like moisture, pressure or helium. The power requirements at depth on helium are quite remarkable.I found sensors like these last night: Gas Sensors But I figured there has to be some limitation, moisture or pressure. . Alex |

| Re: CO2 sensor design I was thinking about this topic C02 sensor detector and came across this post. It sounds like a few people are working on developing this technology. I wonder if it’s lack of funding or too difficult to develop. As rebreathers seam to get more popular perhaps this will be on the horizon sometime in the near future?

Chett,You might want to do some reading of the O.R. Sports thread (s) or have a gander @ Deep Life Ltd: Specialists in life critical system design, you can currently buy a 'commercial' off the shelf rebreather with CO2 loop detection for diver & surface supervisor via umbilical, IIRC they had this on show working @ DEMA 07. They will have a recreational set of electronics that you can buy for EURO 995 @ DEMA 08 (22 Oct) to go on a US$995 mCCR. So the near future ain't exactly that far away! Don't know of any other rebreather companies currently looking at supplying a CO2 sensor, though they may be keeping the release quiet for commercial benefit @ DEMA? Will be interesting how soon an aftermarket company figures out how to adapt a fitting to insert the O.R.Sports monitor into another rebreathers loop, would be one hell of an upgrade to a Mk15.5 for a fraction of the units cost. Regards Brad |

Regards Brad Hi Brad, Thank you for telling me that The Deep Life, Open Revolution will have some type of C02 sensor detector. This will be interesting to see how this works in this unit. I know that the biggest hurdle to tackle with a C02 sensor is water.
