![]() | Re: Another Ida71 Question The square scrubber does have twice the dwell time of the gas on the 'sorb. Dave . I understand the path length is twice as long but its half as wide so the gas will flow thru at twice the speed meaning it spends the same amount of time in the scrubber (+/- due to the size diffrence). What am I missing? Am I right in thinking having 2 CLs will help reduce the problems associated with a single scrubber? eg increasing dwell time?

| Monty Guest Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Another Ida71 Question However if I were to build the IDA again, I would keep the two scrubbers and use a 1-1.5 L tank for O2 where the original russian tank sits. The DIL would then come from a sidemount S40 that also carries my bailout. /GKAM rgds monty |

| digital nomad Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Another Ida71 Question We've done about 5 x IDA-71 conversions here in SA and have found 2 liter steel tanks for on-board O2 which fit in the chassis nicely without encroaching on the counterlung, and still allows us to have the DS4 first stages inside the case. Only the tank valve handwheel sticks out and requires some of the case to be cut away. Yup. I have the same setup in mine. Everything fits inside the case except the valve knobs. ![]() /GKAM

![]() | Re: Another Ida71 Question Guys, Again, this is EXACTLY the sort of information for which I'm searching! I may go with the fully modular system ala Sutton, and make the O2 tank the only permanent onboard. That awful feeling of impending doom, and the shortness of breath fron Hypercapnia are disconcerting at best, debhilitating at worst! ![]() |

![]() | Re: Another Ida71 Question I actually found a use for the original valve/first stage that came with the 71, Actually just about all the IDA AKA valves. If anyone has the original, valves or valves and cylinders collecting dust, After doing a conversion I would be interested in purchasing them. Email me at smcwilliam@sympatico.ca thanks Scottat Last edited by s. McWilliam : 11th August 2008 at 23:48. Reason: second thought |

Email me at smcwilliam@sympatico.ca A plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it Helen Clark. There's something not quite right with this request, I just can't put my finger on it......thanks Scottat Are you going to tell or do we send in the storm troopers? Actually, I found a use for a couple of valves as well - converted them to adaptors so I could get the tanks hydro'd. Last edited by osiris : 12th August 2008 at 06:25. |

![]() | Re: Another Ida71 Question Well I had a hang nail once and it hurt so much I can not even envision baboo under the fingernails, so I do not mind spilling the beans. I lucked out on a few two litre 3000 psi steel cylinders that have the same thread as the Russian cylinders. They are one inch larger in circumference than the cylinders in a 72 but they will fit. Every thing else has to be modified. So, depending on were you live they could be a good deal. They are DOT (the US) and TC (transport Canada) certified. So, once you get over the thread taper problem (I chopped one to get mine hydroed to) you can use the Russian valve first stage that came with the unit for the conversion. I have a few spares and can make them available with a hydro, VIP, and O2 ready to anyone who needs them at basically a dirt cheep price. That is you would be paying for the hydro, shipping and a couple of bucks for paint and cleaning. That`s the big mystery lol. Scott |

Well, after buying my Rbs I couln't afford the storm troopers anyway!Scott . The cylinders sound good - have you looked at the valves on tecme.de? They have the PA valves look alikes there in Klienkonisch - the russki one's tend to be a bit marmalised by the time I get them out I have found. |

![]() | Re: Another Ida71 Question Thanks for the tip I will check that out. I would prefer a little more sophisticated first stage anyway. Scott McWilliam |
