oled displays

Hi ,

I've watched the video posted by a Rebreather World member about the X1 liquid vision, the oled display is simply....fantastic.

I've seen this n the internet :

Fantastic 16x2 Characters OLED LCD Module Display - eBay (item 230256115378 end time Jun-01-08 12:38:49 PDT)

I've ordered 4 units of this display to put it in my oxymeter.

On the other hand I did not managed to download the datasheet and I wonder what is the oled display électrical consomption ?

is it huge ?

is it the reason why liquid vision has chosen to implement a rechargeable battery in it's computer that "only" lasts 20 heures between charges ?

regards

jean mi

I don't recall anywhere in the documentation for the X1 that it states the battery last 20 hours between charges. In my practical experience with it, it lasts more like 60 hours between charges. But, keep in mind that this is an assumption since I've only run it down to 70% remaining life on ~20 hours of use.

Hi ,

I was not trying to criticize the liquivision at all belive me, it is rigth the opposit I've paced it in my list of computers ...I did not make a choice , pursuit, X1 ?....

I said 20 hours cause it is writen on their site in the specs site section :

Liquivision X1 Home

they say up to 20 hours between charges. it is good if they are well under the true specs of their machine.

regards

Re: oled displays

I looked at OLED displays a few months ago - power consumption is pretty low, bearing in mind you don't need a backlight.

good news, I hope they are going to be soon available from traditional electronics suppliers like radio spares .
I ve ordered a couple from ebay sold by a chinese supplier and they say it take long to be delivered...
the good news for me is that they make standard 16 characters display...cause I don't how to deal with graphic displays....I must learn but for the momentcharacter displays are a fast solution

Oh, no worries. I'll definitely criticize when it's warranted and due. I was just sticking to the facts and real-world data. Looks like you delivered facts as well. It makes me wonder if the Liquivision site is up to date.

Cheers

in fact it a good news that you computer lasts 60 bwt charges it means that the oled display does not eats the batteries good news,
a question however classics lcd are not easy to read in blackness but perform well in day ligth (when we are at surface or close to the surfaçe , what about the X1 oled dispays?
are they also easy to read in day ligth ?

The OLED displays are advertised as devices with low power consumption but I had the chance to test one identical to the one Jmurba ordered and with the screen full of characters the current draw was near 40 mA. A bit to high for a battery powered device.

power consumption on OLED displays depend on temperature, brightness and how many characters you have on..

OLED displays will have a high current draw compared to positive LCD displays since they always need power to display the characters.. The best comparison would be negative stn lcd displays that also need the backlight always on.. In this case the OLED would use less power.. You need to budget atleast 50ma for the size display that the X1 uses.. It will vary, sometimes more sometimes less, but 50ma is a reasonable estimate..

OLED displays are a good substiute for VFD displays that consume alot more constant power..

Also grab em while you can.. Most of the large molecule oled producers have either went out of business or stopped producing them.. Oled displays are not recommeneded for new designs at this time. COlor OLED displays are still being manufcatured..
