are they also easy to read in day ligth ?
My X1 is set at medium brightness. Full sun has never prevented me from reading the X1 display. The numbers/letters have a thin (read sharp) but very bright outline.

Re: oled displays

The OLED in the X1 draws between 8mA and 25mA depending on the brightness setting.

Also grab em while you can.. Most of the large molecule oled producers have either went out of business or stopped producing them.. Oled displays are not recommeneded for new designs at this time. COlor OLED displays are still being manufcatured..
How come? Is there any better type out there? Definately seems better than LCD when they are used in dark envirenments.

I did not know that oled production had stopped, there must be reasons.
as for the consumption I personnally Use 4 AA baterries in my ppo2 meter so I will have enough energy to feed the oled I think, it will only force me to change the batteries more then once a year... so not a big deal...well we will see.
if the displays arrive from china I will test the display and let you know what is their consumption in my use conditions.
regards
jean mi

Eric,
The typical OLED display is specified at a VCC of 12v nominal, so 25ma is quite alot (but less than VFD and many times its less than a LCD with a strong backlight)... If a person is starting with a voltage source of say 3.6v nominal (rechargeable liion) that means the display alone is pulling at least 75ma (at the lower voltage to feed a charge pump).. Of course we are taliking about a full display, so half a display will consume less.. Thats why its hard to characterize perfrmance of an oled displaybecause power consumption is quite dynamic..

Looking at all the osram data sheets (since they were one of the last bug guys to exit) the specify anywhere from 22 to 29 ma as the typical display current up to about 32ma for the max by design..

My understanding is that the recomendation to not use OLED displays for new products at the moment has nothing to do with their useability. It's down to the fact that once current stocks are used there are no more until someone else starts manufacturing them. So the recomendation is down to supply issues if you are looking to ship any sort of volume.
