![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Thinking of a mod to my Kiss Classic (details elswhere). Basically an off-board O2 (or other gas) add. A QC would be useful as I may not want the extras for many dives. My question is - which QCs are best for O2? Swagelok have some PTFE sealed versions, but most people (for various gas add systems) seem to use the 4 or 6 series stuff. Anyone with any experience or thoughts? Neil

Swagelok have some PTFE sealed versions, but most people (for various gas add systems) seem to use the 4 or 6 series stuff. Anyone with any experience or thoughts? Neil Few things to consider: (1): 02 systems do not need the flow rates to support open circuit flows (unlike dil systems that may feed an ADV/BOV/etc), so the QD's used may be smaller in diameter and lower flow than one used for diluent offboard feed. A standard BC type inflator hose QD will work just fine. (2): 02 cleaning is not anything to obsess over in the low pressure range, as there is zero worry of sufficient heat being caused by a rapid pressurization at those low pressures. Materials are not an issue either. Use "any old" and you'l be fine. (3): There are NO quick disconnects that entirely exclude water when connected underwater. With that said, for any given system of disconnect, the smaller the disconnect diameter, the less water inclusion. This again leads to the idea of using a low-flow, small diameter disconnect, something that has not been common practice, but something that deserves a second thought. Solenoids are sensitive to salt water, far more so than manual adds and ADV's, so think this thru before selection of a disconnect system. Naturally, it's best to not connect them in the water, but if you do connect them: Less included water is better. (4): The offboard gas add system that I showed before with photos is still the easiest way to go. The one for the Inspiration that I showed also acts as a solenoid isolator. Study it and think about that too. Best, Dave .

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Quick Connects for O2 Thanks for the thoughts Dave. What I was thinking of was a 1/4 NPT/pipefittings "T" in place of the elbow on the O2 in port on the right of the Kiss Classic, reattaching the normal MAV to one port, thus leaving another. To this I was thinking of a QC with shutoff (so for lesser dives I can remove the following bits). To this plug in a QC, hose, Narked at 90 inspo button cradle with inspo button. Then I could plug off-board gas into the button and feed as needed, controlling manually. The QC would obviously be in O2, it needs to shut off when disconnected to avoid gas loss/water intrusion, so BC bits won't work. I was wondering whether the Swagelok PTFE seal was worth using, but it is only LP O2! Small size is important to fit between the head and the O2 cylinder on the Kiss (though I've moved the cylinder out a bit anyway for other reasons). Neil

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Quick Connects for O2 You can do all of that with a BC QD and a checkvalve inline between it and the rig, but a DESO (double end shutoff) would be better. Look at the Swagelok stuff and see what their "smaller" DESO QD is, and that's what you need. Dave .
