CCR training for mCCR Dolphin

Hi all,
I was wondering what people have done to learn how to dive CCR when they convert their Dolphins to mCCR. I've been reading how to convert my Dolphin from various web sites(Ron @ TMI, Kim Meineche, etc.), and that seems pretty straight forward. I already have a VR3 with the O2 sensor for PPO2 monitoring, but I'll also be adding an additional sensor from Martin@Tecme.

So, once I get everything together, how do I learn to dive it? I just don't want to throw a death machine on my back and dive it. I may survive through trial, but I don't want to die through error. Are there any good books out there on how to dive mCCR? I know Martin sells one, but it is in German. My German is pretty good, but I would hate to miss something critical due to a language barrier.

You drag it a 2 hours drive north to the Little Diveshop of Horrors and spend a few days with me. Starting out with putting it on the bench for an inspection of your methods, we can then do one of two things:

(1): Do a real ANDI rEvo mCCR course, train you and fully certify you as an ANDI rEvo diver (Theory and operation of the mCCR system is identical), and then go off and do a short crossover under RSDAS to the mCCR Dolphin.

Or:

(2): Use ANDI books for the generic mCCR diving theory, and do the same exact training as would be done for an ANDI certification course, except on the Dolphin mCCR. Since ANDI does not issue cards for that, we would work under RSDAS and certification would be thru them.

Don't shortchange the training. The Dolphin mCCR is very safe rebreather: It can only BARELY kill you....

Sounds like a good option Dave. I'm hoping to have all the parts by the beginning of June. Can you PM me your info so I can stay in touch with you once I start proceeding? I've always wanted to do some New Jersey diving. Sounds like a good excuse!

Re: CCR training for mCCR Dolphin

I did my mCCR training on my converted Dolphin with Holger from Tauche tief und lang, Silcherweg 2, 69469 Weinheim, Tel: 06201 340 354.
There´s no agency certification for this and it is far from you aswell in Germany, so not really an option for you.
I believe Dave and Holger knows each other.

HI,

it is wise do what you are doing and it is wise to visit dave.
when I finished my first dolphin conversion.....I simply splashed after having enriched my loop with o2 and went down to 40m to see what happen.....and it was a nigthmare....
my ppo2 was dropping rapidly, I had to inject every 3 minutes....
it took me maybe 5 dives before being able to get my look somewhere else then myr oxymeters .
at the same time I had to cope with technical problems of my home converted crap dolphin...
at that time there were no tecme parts ((((-:, and no body arround to have a look at my rebreather...
after 10 dives things became better.. after that it took me 2 years to better my converted dolphin....and I still work on it 8 years after I bought it (((-: but now just for the pleasure to make things myself....
so go and met dave...you will save time .

I am doing the same here down in france everytime a new home builder is about to splash...

I don't regret my choice, home building is just fun... I should have bought a micro lathe long before I bought it

regards

jean mi

Yes, indeed. Holger dove his homebuilt on the Doria with me last year, and will do it again this year. He's very good, and is recommended by me for this. He's not only a good instrucotor and diver, he's also a builder, which takes him to a level of expertise not found in others in Eurpope who have recently decided to teach "Homebuilts" without being homebuilders themselves. Holger is more than a homebuilder, as his rig is in low volume production.

RSDAS does do work in Europe, perhaps we should encourage Holger to take an Instructors Rating with us so he can issue cards.
