| Moving away from plastic & the ARO snot trap Hello, After a long winter of way too much work I'm attempting to get back to doing more rebreather building. My MR101 design was modeled after the ARO57 more or less, other than I went the plastic route. Well I'm going to rebuild my design but this time in brass and then nickel plate. And it will look some what more ARO like. Anyhow the rubber goo trap at the base of the ARO, does it have the water trap as a molded part of the rubber bulb? or is it more of a tube from the metal housing like in a tank valve? I suspect it is part of the rubber bulb but would be interested to hear from some one who has one. I've seen Dave's web site images but that detail was not covered in depth. Bill

| Re: Moving away from plastic & the ARO snot trap Bill, Might want to check with Oxydiver here on rebreatherworld. He has an excellent website- http://www.oxydiver.de/ You can use babel fish for the translation from German to English. I did find a copy of the manual online in Italian. Link- http://www.watalibi.com/ARO57.pics/CorsoARO57.pdf Like the idea of using a drain in the snot locker. I will be following along with interest in the scrubber design. Gene Hobbs has an interesting paper on axial design through his website. Regards, Andrew

| Re: Moving away from plastic & the ARO snot trap Well, I have done this way (I have done a pendulum version). I have a piece of foam, which I can reach unscrewing the plug. They are all plumbing standard parts, soldered with flame. They give a vintage touch to the assembly . And the foam is allways full water. Though, you should have something absorbent in the counter lung also. See the disassembly of the ARO at Dave's website for this.jorge |

| Re: Moving away from plastic & the ARO snot trap Hallo Bill, in my metal version from the msp 2006 is the watertrap only a part of Bicycle Tyre. Inside is a rolled sponge-washing-cloth . I works realy very good for one dive. But i have an not realisated idea. I want to replace this with a pumping ball from the fuel hose of outboarder (attachment. Then i can remove the water ever, also underwater. Greetings Micha |

Hi,Bill the foto left was at working, but not ready, the one right is of the ready parts. I have been testing it a couple of times, still having some buoyancy problems, but I disassemblied it and I'm still in process to have it alltogether again :-) (and parallel building another one, to have someone to dive with... without a loudy oc... ) Actually in my avatar you could see me diving it ![]() The lung is made of PVC, in oxydiver style. jorge |

Your idea is great but I would swap out tha one-way valves. I think slavo slees thier pee valve valves pretty cheap, dont know if the could ab used in just that pump though... |

Thing is without some form of back pressure gas or water would leak past so it would need an on/off valve. I also bought some drain cocks with the idea of putting them on the bottom of the hose just past the scrubber. Anyhow none of them ever made it on any design. I hope to come up with some thing that has a classy look to it. We will see if that comes true or not! Bill
