simple dsv

Hi all,

My buddy denis and I just finished a complete re-configuration of our dolphin based ccr's.

the weak point is the cell hoder and the L hose enhancer and could break if the rebreather happended to fall down from a table for example.

for that reason I am currently machining a cell hoder to be set on the insp hose, also I am making new bag connections to be able to use classicle rebreather hoses with straigth ends (like the kiss ones for example).

My problen is that I don't want to machine a complete dsv on my micro lathe not to spend a year doing it.

are there normal dsv (not bovs) in sale anywhere that would fit normal 2 inches internat diameter hoses ?

I've looked on the internet but in vain, I only found bovs, and I don't like bovs for their volume , their weigth their complexity and their price etc

thank in advance for help

jean mi

Re: simple dsv

I got one as pictured below from Rebreathers Australia. It fits big bore 2" hoses and the valve is single handed operation. They don't show it on their site Rebreathers Australia but they do stock it and will supply internationally. The guy I dealt with was Errol Harding.

$225 aussie, which is about $210 cannuck. I got the hoses too, which are spiral, heavy rubber but only just long enough for me. They were $55 aussie each.

Re: simple dsv

Hi Ray. Is this what you used on your AKA60??

Im looking for one for my IDA 71. Do you think this will suit? How did you connect the hoses to your AKA?

Hi Greg, yes it is. It will work on the 71, no drama. The aussie rubber hoses are 1.5" at the c-lung end. I cut off the soviet metal hose fittings at the c-lung end to get the screw-ring things off. Made up some copper 1" to 1.5" fittings out of plumbing elbows and flares and slipped the screw-rings on then silver soldered a shoulder on to the 1" end about 5mm up. Used the original soviet o-ring. The screw-rings are trapped onto the copper elbows by the shoulder at one end and the 1.5" flare at the other.

You can see the copper elbows in this shot...

Re: simple dsv

Just FYI I used KISS hoses and a KISS BOV on my IDA-71 (and on my Dolphin before that)

If one removes the original IDA hoses from the metal collar and nut on the IDA, a short length of rubber tube over the metal fitting creates enough of a step up in diameter to fit the KISS hoses.

I've been diving with it like that for more than a year, no issues at all. It's great to do it like that as you don't destroy or modify the original fittings, its cheap and takes hardly any time at all.

oufff....yes it home made 2 shells, fiberglass.....2 months of saturday work on it, I'll never do it again, what a pain in the neck !!!!

I had thought of buying an hydrogom one but it was so heavy that I would have had to install a redudant wing with 2 sources of gas to feed it in case of loop drowning.

here the shell is ligth and has droppable bars of lest (6 kilos) .

In case of loop drowning and wing failure I will be still able to go up dropping my lest.

regards
