AKA-60 and Shearwater Combination

Just finished setting up my Shearwater Pursuit on the Orca SCR. Got one of Martins (Tecme) 3 cell P-Port holders with his new PSR 11-39 TME cells. They are tiny like a K1 and go sideways into the holder. He also does a nice delrin cage thing that goes on the inside of the P-Port, the holder slides down into it. I had to take the OPV out of the counterlung and use the hole to get the cage inside.

The current version of Pursuit code allows calibration in O2 down to 70%. I asked Bruce about letting this be set to anything from air up so it can calibrate cells in an SCR. Apparently that's coming in an SCR code release. Meantime, I have to calibrate the cells with the holder in a plastic baggie filled from my welding O2 bottle...

The Pursuit will use the real time PPO2 for Deco calculations, but Bruce said the TTS is calculated based on the Setpoint, so that will not track true for an SCR, but the Deco obligation (stops etc) will. This will also be addressed in the SCR code update.

Anyway, it's a tidy setup, I have the fischer cable coming out the top l/h side slot in the Orca chassis and running down my left arm to the Pursuit.

I intend to run my rEvodream as well in future so I have PPO2 display redundancy and HUD but for now, I am keeping it basic until I have done a few easy dives with the Pursuit.

Looking forward to a dive with it this weekend!

Re: AKA-60 and Shearwater Combination

I have been running a Shearwater and one of Martin's external 3 cell holders on my SCR Dolphin for over a year now and love it.

Calibration was a hassle (plastic bag) until I bought a couple of plugs for the housing and plumbed them to make a 2 atm pressure pot. O2 from a medical O2 regulator feeds into one end and the other has a 1.5 atm gauge and a needle valve to adjust pressure. I can do linearity checks to 2 atm with O2 and calibrate at 1 atm with this set up.

I wonder if you could make up a similar pot with a P-port? You may not want to run the pressure up much over 1 atm to keep from damaging the P-port, but you would have an easy to use calibration pot and could check linearity to 1.2 -1.4 atm.

Even with the TTS issue, the Shearwater makes a great SCR computer now. It is so much better knowing that my nitrogen loading is being tracked by something better than my best estimate. And Ross's dive logging software makes calculating my actual VO2 after the dive a breeze - no jotting down depth and PO2 on a slate anymore.

If an SCR version is released it would be fantastic.

Re: AKA-60 and Shearwater Combination

Thanks for the info Steve, pleased to hear your Shearweater/SCR combination works well. I have a spare unfitted P-Port so will definately try to make up a small pressure pot. Every time I've tried to calc my VO2 based on slate scribbles I've come up with different values after each dive. Will be good to get an accurate result!

Re: AKA-60 and Shearwater Combination

REALLY looking great. Well done! Find a mate who wants one like it, so I can send mine as it's looking for a good home. You really have gotten yours well set up. Just perfect! It's behaving itself I assume?

The suggestion to make a P-Connector test and calibration chamber is a good one. Martin?

Re: AKA-60 and Shearwater Combination

Cheers, Dave. I did away with the home-made BOV and got some big-bore hoses and DSV from the Abyss guys in Aussie. I'm quite happy on SCR. The unit is going nicely and I just want to get hours on it now. Hooking in the Pursuit covers off my last remaining concern (tracking loop to deco) and now I can dive it with confidence.

I did flick Steve some green for that P-Port pot idea, very worthy.

Dunno, but the "Officially Licensed One" is made by John Routley (narked@90). Look here:

Prices are on the page and quality is top-notch. Officially endorsed by the LDSOH.

From Martin it's 90 euro with the protective cage and a cable gland. PSR-11-39 TME Cells to fit are 60 euro each and a P-Port set (with blanking plug) is 32 euro.

Martin refers people interested in your K-1D version from his website to narked at 90's with a link.
TecMe makes a triple cell p-port holder for the AI PSR 11 39 TME sensors.

Are you saying that you get a licensing fee from Johns cell holder? I'm all for supporting the inventor/originator if that is the case. It's just the Tecme one is $132 in my currency with the cage and his cells (which cost roughly the same) last twice as long. John's is almost $280 with the cage.
