| Re: home made dsv At the risk of sounding a little harsh, if you're looking for parts and pieces to build a DSV from a hardware store, you're asking for trouble. A DSV is nothing to be making out of PVC fittings and plumber's putty. Custom units can and have been built, but it requires specialized skills, knowledge of the engineering involved in dive equipment, and access to lathes, mills, and other equipment purposely set up for plastic/composite work. None of that are you going to find at your local Home Depot. If you must change DSV's, there are too many options out there for you to risk your life with a homemade rig. Just my opinion, hope I haven't rubbed you the wrong way. There are some things that are ok to homebuild, but I'd think awlfully hard about trying to make my own DSV. It is, afterall, life support equipment you're tinkering with. FD ![]() Last edited by firemandiver : 26th January 2008 at 03:45. |

| Re: home made dsv And yet a great many have been made and displayed here. The only thing that concerns me about a DIY DSV is that PVC is said to off gas nasty chemicals.

Good question since you are in the *Home Build Rebreathers* section. Anyways here is a pic of a homebuild DSV I made from the Home Depot rebreather shop. Patrick Duffy used to have instructions on the Oxycheq website but Tom Rose still has the process well documented (which I followed) so I am definitely not the first to do it and hopefully not the last. You can see I made just a couple of modifications to Tom's design because I had a lathe. Works great and is a classic. Thom Last edited by SeaBass : 26th January 2008 at 06:50. |

| Re: home made dsv Perhaps I was a bit hasty in my reply. Apparently there have been some made from hardware store parts. As SeaBass said, he had access to a lathe for the special fitment needs. So my point is still valid... it can be done, but can it be done easily and relatively safely? That would be a personal choice. * I * would not want to take a chance with my life by using a $6 T-valve from Home Depot as my primary air delivery. FD![]() |

| Re: home made dsv it can be done, but can it be done easily and relatively safely? Yes. By the hundreds. In about ten minutes. For 25+ years. In perfect safety. Methinks it's time for those who have not done to listen a bit to those who have. Theory is only valid insofar as it reflects reality. Bumblebees fly.... and that's a fact. Dave .

| Re: home made dsv packhorse, Why is the link a thread hijack? did you follow it? The link leads to a homebuild DSV, I wouldn't want to use it any deeper than an O2 rebreather but it's servicable. Simon A It was me hijacking the thread asking why this was plasted on the linked page.Quote: Owners of Golem Rebreathers are not allowed to give testimonials. You will just have to trust us. I know nothing of Golem Rebreather's but a quote like that does not instill confidence. We are talking about life support and a "trust me" attatude just doesnt seem right.
