![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Now that's how you write an owners' manual. Leave out the BS liability limiting motherhood statements, describe how the unit works in full detail and include lots of the important stuff like spec sheets, exploded diagrams, o-ring specs etc...that would actually help you strip and service the rig without having to send it halfway around the globe and risk damage etc just to let the factory rip you blind. I wish more manuals were like that. ![]() |

Have an unmodified rig you’re planning to convert? Diving one in some modified/ unmodified form? I see you’ve already been given the manual link. That’s a good start. Once you study it carefully you will most likely see that the procedures by which the Russian military operated this rig would be considered downright dangerous by the vast majority of today’s Rebreather divers. The only way to safely dive an UNMODIFIED unit is to treat it as a pure O2 rig, using all appropriate O2 CCR procedures and limitations. Best, Ken |

Yes, never even consider using the offboard EAN40 unit with western scrubber material in both canisters! You need one canister to be filled with potassium hyperoxide to generate O2 for the system once you are passed 12/14m (this is approx. where the hydrostatic valve kicks in and flushes the loop with nitrox). If you use regular stuff in both canisters you will go hypoxic very fast. btw, potassium hyperoxide is the same stuff used in the OBA you were asking about in a different post. Also, remember that the IDA71 has zero tolerance for water in the loop since there is no water trap but Ken has some cool suggestions about how to incorporate one. ![]() | Hi, I do not dive this unit any more but there are some information on how to modify it on my site at www.seippel.nu. Look under Rebreathers->My rebreathers->SMIDA the CCR. /Peder |

I do understand the limitations of the unmodified rig (bet you are glad about that) I have also realised about the lack of water/condensate trap, so would be interested in 'Kens' suggestions. Correct me if I am wrong, but I was thinking of reversing the scrubber, so that the expired gas would first travel to the base of the unit where I could remove the plug and make a screw on trap instead. This I believe would catch any moisture before travelling through the 'lime. Also, remember that the IDA71 has zero tolerance for water in the loop since there is no water trap but Ken has some cool suggestions about how to incorporate one.
