New Homemade

I just finished my new homemade. Those of my brother is on a good way. So we will start our tests in the next 2-3 weeks.
It's a eCCR with Shearwater GF electronic and a VR with p-Port on a 4th cell. The system has two O2 tanks. One on a KISS orifice with a flow of about 0,7l/min and one on the solenoid. Filter is radial (3,0 Kg ca.). Counterlungs are over the shoulder from Buddy inspiration. Bov is homemade and has Apeks inner-part. On the unit from my brother the coutnerlungs are selfmade. The rest is the same. Filter on the second unit is radial too, but a little smaler (2,3 Kg. ca.)
Making his own rebreather is a lot of work but gives also a lot of satisfaction if its finished and even more satisfaction diving it.

Re: New Homemade

Congratulations! It sure is an impressive design and the construction looks rock solid. What made you take the hybrid way?

My brother and I used a homemade eCCR, with homemade electronic in the past Years. It was a small unit witch I used for rec-dives and filming. It was good for traveling too and works always fine. But in one trip in the red see I had a problem on the electronic (the breather comes from the airport and the electronic did not start – problem for bad handling on transportation on the aircraft.) so I dived the unit with a Kiss-orifice,witch I had as a spare part with me and it works fine. In that trip I made 24 dives with the unit as a mCCR and liked to dive it in KISS mode too.
My decision for my new homebuild was clear. I want to implemented both systems in the new unit, having the advantage of both worlds -mCCR-eCCR. As I will use the new unit (after testing) also for cave dives I use two O2 tank . One with a sealed first stage for the O2-flow and one tank with one first stage (6-7bar – not sealed) for the solenoid. If something goes wrong with the electronic I have a full-bailout manual system. I have not to pass manualy from eCCR to mCCR because the O2-flow is always ON on dive. The VR3 on the 4th cell give me even more security. So thats all good on paper, will see in the future if the way is the right one. My brother is working on a HUD witch will monitor all 3 cells. Hope he will finish it soon.
Heard that some rebreather-builder take the same way. (rEVO – new Hammerhead)

A pic of my old rebreather with the electronic I had problem on batteries after transportation on aircraft

Nice work.....It looks very sturdy and well made.

Make sure to let us know how it dives.

Hi Edvin, no, the two 3l AL tanks are diluent and oxygen. The second oxygen sorce, witch goes to the solenoid, is a small 0,85l tank. That's enough for my use, as the flow is always ON, the solenoid will not fire that much also in long dives. If I loss the 3L tank I have more than 150 liter or something like 150 min. + 80 cuf stage tank - or more tanks (witch is also connected to the BOV). As I said, I have to test so maybe the configuration will change.
I will PM You more photos of the BOV, or look my gallery, there should be some there.

Pics: second O2 Tank for solenoid and the pressure gauge for Oxygen Kiss (3L Al ) and Oxygentank for eCCR-solenoid (0,85)

Re: New Homemade

Very nice piece of kit. Looks professionally made too.

On your avatar you look like the scuba version of BuzzLightyear. I mean this in a very good way. The kit does not look out of place on you.

I am wondering how much do you weigh? And what is you O2 consumption?

Hi Teoman,
76 Kg without my BuzzLightyear gear . Don't know exactly my O2 consumption. I just used the same orifice as in my older rebreather for tests (The orifice is 0,076mm with a IP pressure of 14bar(fix) - so Oxygen flow is about 0,703 lt/min and constant up to 60 Meter). If I have not work to hard i had to add not to much oxygen manually in my dives. So for me will work fine.

Friendly BuzzLightyear
uuuuups Oswald

Re: New Homemade

Had my first test-dive (70 Min. Pool) today. The new Homemade works perfect.
Nothing to change on the configuration. Have to add 2 Kg weight on the frame (for dry-suit) and ring weights on the house near the BOV.That should be all.
The second rebreather for my brother is close to be finish. Think in a week we will make a second test-pool dive before going a little deeper.

Wish all rebreatherdivers merry Christmas
