| Clippard Valve Springs The Clippard MJV-2 valve seems to be the Dil/O2 manual add valve of choice for homebuilders. Several users (including Paul Raymaekers, Dave Sutton and Corallaro) have suggested replacing the spring that holds the valve closed with a stiffer spring. I think I've found a suitable spring ![]() from Associated Spring Raymond which is avaiable here in the US from MSC Item Detail. I've got some on order and will give them a test. Anybody found anything else which might work? -Dan

| Re: Clippard Valve Springs "stephane" is my clippard spring guru and non only spring guru .It is a cylindrical compression spring that i put in position "internally" that you see in image below. I cut the spring to be not to hard to avoid that can move toward the positions A and B in image below The diameter of this spring must be able to fit the diameter of internal of, in my case, "T piece" to avoid strange movements, but to be able to make his right movement/compression. I leave the original conical spring in his position. This w.e. i hope to measure it. This is my solution.... Giovanni Last edited by Corallaro : 30th November 2007 at 17:00. |

| Re: Clippard Valve Springs Well, I got the Raymond springs, and they fit into the Clippard valve bodies perfectly. While the original springs are counter-clockwise wound (i.e. left-hand thread), the new ones are clockwise wound, so they lie right in the bottom-most threads of the valve inlets. They're a little hard to push in all the way, but with a pair of fine needle-nose pliers you can "screw" them in. The new springs stiffen up the valve action considerably - you're not going to want to push on the valve stem without an actuator button! Valve Springs Small.JPG The wire is about twice the diameter of the original springs. Valve Modified Small.JPG Here's a view into my "crash test dummy" valve with Raymond spring installed. BTW, this is a valve salvaged off a scrapped nitric acid wash tank at work. The outside had a dark patina, but the inside was clean after nearly ten years in service. -Dan

| Re: Clippard Valve Springs Oops! Silly me. I should have known that McMaster-Carr would have these springs! 1692K11 $11.06 for a package of three. Truly a one-stop homebuilt Rebreather store. I've got to take a closer look at the catalog - they've probably got Cooper hoses in there somewhere...
