what are the better sensor molex connectors ?

Hi all,
again yester day I lost one sensor displays at the end of the dive (I had finished deco).
I opened the sensor holder and shaked a little bit the molex connectors, the missing sensor displayed backe to 0.90 like the others....
what are the best molex connectors for sensors on earth ?
gloden or silver plated pins bla bla I don't know what but the better ....
regards
jean mi

If you are asking whether you should get gold-contacts, I guess the answer is yes, but I have seen them corrode as well. Try cleaning the contacts carefully.
Can you be a bit more specific regarding the sensors you use? The K1 can also be used with the molex 3-pin, however the sensor pins are slightly too big and bend the molex pins which can destroy them. In this case the problem might not be corrosion but tension.

Hi Joerg

thanks for help,

-As for the gold-contacts I don't know I jst want to know what connectors give the bests results in real life and where I could order them

-I use R-22's teledyne of course

-as the problem origin, I really don't know, it is very difficult to find it out ... this the reason I'd like to know what connectors statisticaly work better then the others.

this the last problems we have with our electronics alog with the bluddy ip 69 connectors rated to 100m and leaking....(lumberg...)

Electricity and whater ....

regards

If I understand you right, you are dealing with high moisture due to water leaking. In general terms I dare to say that the gold pin connectors would be better, however your sensor-pins will still corrode as they are not gold-plated. So in effect it would almost not matter, you just won't have to replace the gold-pins quite as often.

The molex-part# for the housing could be 22-01-3037. Gold-plated pins for the housing could be 08-55-0102, although these are only partially gold plated. Molex 08-56-0131 should be fully gold-plated. Welcome to Molex

If you ask my advise: solve the problem, not the symptom. Fix the leak. But I suppose you would if it were easy, right?

Hi joreg,
I don't have any leak,
of course if I had a leak I would not blame the sensor connector (((-:

Re: what are the better sensor molex connectors ?

I have found the jack plug type connectors (available with R22s) to be far far more practical in rbs.

My advice would be, when its time to change sensors, to change the cells to jack plug type, solder jack plugs (available from RS) to your sensor wires then pot the inside of the jackplug housing to make it whole thing water proof.

IMO molex are just not suitable in a moisture rich environment like inside an Rebreather

The most Ive had to do is wipe the jackplugs with a cloth every now and then to remove any scale. They have been flooded several times and everytine I wash down my unit they (the jack plugs) get emersed/soaked (try that with a amolex ) - no issues

I had been thinking about that - do you have a part number? gold-plated?

they are chrome plated. part no: 449-994, 998

after soldering the wires to the plug (left) I slide over the clear plastic sleeve (middle) then standing it upright fill it up with resin to pot it.

once set i screw on the outer sleeve (right) . Sorry for crap pic

Re: what are the better sensor molex connectors ?

Or go down the coax route maybe? It's a good connection and a very positive fit too.
