| Trying to Finish! A great wreck dive is coming up in September and I want to use my IDA-71 on it, so I'm scrambling to get it finished and tested. Since Dave's "nobubbles" site is no longer available, I need some questions answered. 1. I've got a set of Dolphin Ray hoses and DSV to replace the originals. Is the best way of attaching the new hoses to simply remove the red and black elbows on the Ray hoses and clamp the hoses on the Russian fittings? Is there a better way? 2. I've got a "P" port on order so that I can get the O2 sensors into the CL. Does the "P" port have an "O" ring seal on it so that I can machine a holder for the sensors and have a watertight seal on the CL? As for the rest, I've got the harness and BC wings on it and my kiss valve is finished. Getting close. Hank

If you have a lathe I recommend you make the plug yourself as many others have too much play, (including the Draeger originals!). I also milled a hole for the P-port in the case to make it easy to remove the P-plug, but this might be over kill. You can just clamp the Ray hoses to the Ida hose fittings. You will get a drop in inside diameter, but it doesnt matter as you will any way have this drop in the CL's internal hose I.D. Did you sort out the tank / scrubber arrangement yet? As you can see the trim will never be fantastic, so make sure to wear your hard hat! Andy |

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. Did you sort out the tank / scrubber arrangement yet? *****I'm going with the two scrubbers. I'm going to use the O2 tanks that came with the unit. I've got a 1.75L steel tank for my diluent. I'm picking it up tomorrow and I think it will fit across the bottom. It's 12.5 inches long and 4.25 inches in diameter. I've got my fingers crossed that it fits. I want to try and keep everything inside the case. What did you do? As you can see the trim will never be fantastic, so make sure to wear your hard hat! *****I can see from the photo that you've put weights on your shoulder straps. Some people have put weights on the inside of the case by the CL. This might help the trim but I wonder about the bouyancy. I guess if you were to put all of the weights that you'd have on your weight belt into the case then everything would work out. Andy Hank

What did you do? dont think you can close the lid with 4.25" OD tank, but you can jury rig it closed with some rope! A many times over looked idea is to forget about tanks in side. Just wear two ALU 80 as side slings and feed the Rebreather and your bail 2nd stages from the same 1st. This is what I used for deeper dives and the trim got much better. I also rolled up some old wet suits and put in the bottom of the case to trim out better on the shallow stops, (where you spend a lot of time). Already the 4 kgs I put on the IDA was only for trim. Any more and I would have needed a larger wing just to get neutral! You are in a drysuit. Just fill it up and wear an anvil around your neck!
