| Re: youtube 02 rebreather video homebuild Naa, really meant the bullets crackin into the water was a De Ja Vous for me. Ah that..Yes well the video does not do justice to the feeling of getting smacked in the chest with the shock waves. The topside crew was just shooting in a defined area so I could film it. What were they shootin ??

| Ditto on the C-96... Small chest mount for shallow dives, add some off-board dil from a pony and some PO2 monitoring and you're all set for some deeper stuff. SIGH. I just checked all my sofas and *still* not enough change for a C-96. Rob |

Within a few weeks I'll be posting a spread on a homebuild modded military unit that I've dubbed the RGU-2, which you can probably do with your couch change if you choose to. I've often jokingly referred to it as 'a poor mans C-96'. ;-) Stay tuned and watch for the posting. Best Dan

| Re: youtube 02 rebreather video homebuild The breather in the flick was based off a picture in a 1970 somthing US Aquanauts catalog. It was called the ARO.. Other than the tank and regulator it cost about $50.00 and a weekend to build. I have footage going over all the parts and details I could throw on youtube if there was any interest.

| Re: youtube 02 rebreather video homebuild Well I don't do much wishing about it, and I do my oddly awesome stuff well below 20 feet Good deal. Not sure what you mean though. I just thought this was an O2 unit, am I missing something?![]() Bill I meant it is odd to see so much underwater activity with such minimal gear, no large cyllinders and such. No personal offense intended. Tibby |

Yes there is "more" so to speak but I'm not going to elaborate. So far Dave has been pretty friendly about me watching my mouth. I'm going to try and keep it that way.I meant it is odd to see so much underwater activity with such minimal gear, no large cyllinders and such. No personal offense intended. Tibby

| Re: Do tell dan... Do tell. I'm eagerly awaiting! Rob The wise old men (Tom, Bob, and Bill), as well as myself all know the magic..... It's all found at the fountain.... drink the kool-aid and then come describe what you see... There are many ways to dive past 02-only limits using an 02 rebreather. Some are found below. Other methods are simpler.... no extra hardware needed. They are also dangerous as shit if you are too dumb to figure it out on your own. Don't ask 'cause I'm not going to tell ya. Here are the "Safest of the unsafe" ways: World smallest CCR by Dave and Diver Dave's Minimum/Bailout Rebreather If you're not a lot smarter than this rebreather is, it'll kill you in a moment. Driven by a professional driver on a closed track. Never try it at home..... Boy, I miss writing about this stuff. Lots has happened since then! Two closing words: Tecnoprene ARO Dave .

| Technoprene... Oh La La =) I'm going to have to find more info out on that! I like the double hose set up on the C-96 but if the cost difference is significant... well shoot! No worries on the "hold my hand" modification stuff; no need. I feel pretty confident that I understand how rebreathers work both mechanically as well as physiologically and how not to die flying them. I am just trying to find a suitable chassis which won't kill my miniscule budget (as well as fund a mill/lathe for the garage =P). Rob PS. I'm far too protective of my own mortality to try the "no extra hardware" dive on an O2 reb, I'll just live vicariously through your writings and build somthing inbetween the siege/alpinist rebreather. Maybe I'll call it the travel trailer rebreather ![]() Last edited by whoizrob : 12th August 2007 at 22:01. |
