Home Built Rebreather on Utila

I just got back from a dive trip on Utila and Guillermo, the guy that runs the equipment repairs among other things, at Utila Dive Center showed me his home built rebreather.

If you ever go to Utila, Utila Dive Center is one of three shops that have any tech diving going on, and has the most 20 something female divers on the island, near as I can tell.

The model is one of the 20 somethings. The Unit can either be used as an oxygen rebreather or as a semi closed depending if the tank in the center is O2 or a nitrox mix.

With O2, the second stage on the right side of the unit is used as demand add. If using nitrox there is a hose with a needle valve for constant addition.

The pink thing at the bottom of the scrubber is a spounge used as an additional water trap. The counter lungs are in the PVC tubes on the sides of the tank.

It says G-tek since the builder is Guillermo. Hey it don't look like much but he dives it and its not vapor ware.

Looks nice... The Rebreather too.

The scrubber looks like one of the Keystone water filters from Mcmaster-Carr.
I've got a few of these in the workshop and had thought they'd make good radial scrubber canisters.
Has anyone else used these before ?

I use that as cannister fo my homebuilt. But it can only contain about 450 gr of sorb. So not too good.

At this point i think that us, homebuilders, are passed by similar ways....
