| Cheap no machining PPO2 display housing -in progress OK, so I've been looking for a way to make a quick no machining required housing for a dual display PPO2 monitor to get me started while I work on a PICaxe based LCD display/HUD. Well, I found this - the OMS part # BCA298 660ft depth rated canister (http://www.omsdive-ca.com/bc_access.html). I'd actually been thinking about it for a DIY canister light battery housing a while back but since it's clear it lends itself to my current needs nicely. I'm going add to it some Chinese digital panel meters bought off eBay (shown) similar to the Oxycheq el-cheapo O2 meter, an electronics proto board, a 9volt, some trim pots, a cable gland, etc and I should have a reasonable PPO2 meter for under $100 less the cost of the sensors. The end caps are thick enough to accept drilling and tapping for a cable gland on one end and 3/8-24 plug for the trim pots on the other. The ABS endcaps are good to glue to as well - not like nasty delrin. Those panel meters look good. What height are the digits ? I'm using Lascar displays but the digits are a bit on the small side. | Re: Cheap no machining PPO2 display housing -in progress How much are the cannisters out of interest? I was at a subsea equipment trade show a couple of years ago and was talking to a rep from a company that made simple double o-ring lexan cylinder housings very similar to this for survey kit and he was talking in excess on 500m depth rating with a fairly thin wall (1/4" IIRC). Those panel meters look good. What height are the digits ? I'm using Lascar displays but the digits are a bit on the small side. I used to use them in my homebuild too. To give you an idea of the size, here is one next to Datel meter as used in the Mark Munro meter design. The Datels are roughly twice the height of a Lascar, so you can work out the display size from that.![]() The main reason I moved to the Datels is that they weren't very robust displays (they don't like rough treatment) and they didn't tolerate water very well either. Cheers, Stuart

| Re: Cheap no machining PPO2 display housing -in progress Thanks Stuart, I'll see if I can find some. Lascars are used in the KISS... less said the betterSomehow I doubt the Lascar ones are much good either when immersed in sea water Kevin I've managed to resurrect a couple in mine but they have never been the same (dead segments on the LCD).The Datels are much more resilient, they are better sealed against water ingress and have what looks like a resin coating over the board at the back but quite a bit bigger than the titchy Lascar displays. My Datels used to get flooded regularly in my homebuilds and always recovered, the Lascars in my KISS needed replacing after one dunking.Cheers, Stuart
