Are all these toxins present at dangerous levels, or is it just that the toxins are nasty and zero risk is prefered? It is interesting to track the exposure limits over time.Generally, for toxins that divers may be exposed to, there is an order of magnitude reduction per decade. This comes about from increased knowledge. This rule has applied since the 1950s with some compounds. That is, increased understanding gives reducing limits as to what is safe. Diving stresses the body, and putting in toxins in that stressed state causes health issues, some of which are long term. I will dig out some examples when back from the present trip, though SINTEF and others have published enough for someone diligent with Google to find. Alex |
