HH O-Ring lube, make sure it's conductive!

Dear List,

On the subject of the much beloved HH, the diligent diver may wish to avoid using O2 compatible grease on the O-ring. This seems to lead to some of the dreaded battery dropouts and resets. These lubricants seem to fall into the category of dielectrics (the key syllable being "die"). A conductive lube on the battery compartment O-ring may be a better option. Informed souls please chime in.

Exactly right, if you require conductivity do not use O2 grease.
you sir, have the knack.

Re: HH O-Ring lube, make sure it's conductive!

While the conductive grease on the O-rings won't hurt, neither will O2 Lube, as long as good contact is being made on the threading and springs.

That's where it's important to make sure that a good conductive lube is used, along with all the cleaning procedures mentioned in the other threads.

I assume you are talking about the metal handsets here...

Very puzzled by this post.....the O ring is pretty insulating in and of itself, and does in any way allow current flow - o2 lube or no o2 lube. On examination of the battery cap (believe me, I've done a fair bit of this lately), it appears to be the threads that make the contact necessary to permit current flow. A mod that I have done with excellent results (so far only the pool), is to replace the battery cap spring with stainless steel items from an electronics kit battery holder. I made sure the spring fitting into the battery cap very snugly to ensure consistent connection. The fact that the sping I used is longer and stronger than the originals seems to have solved the issue. However, jury is still out as I need to test this in the open water which I am not prepared to do untikl I am comfortable it works faultlessly in the pool.

Admittedly I have Rev B handsets so perhaps you are talking about the other revs?

Delrin handsets. The lube rarely stays just on the O-ring and often migrates to the threads, where it may become an issue.

Re: HH O-Ring lube, make sure it's conductive!

Can someone please tell me where I can get conductive Lube in the UK.
Thanks
