NJ Diver is an unknown quantity at this point
Convince me to buy a HH

Hello all,

I have been lurking for a bit trying to gather some info on the different CCRs out there, but this is my first post. I have been interested in joining the ranks of the CCR divers for the past couple of years, but have not done so yet. I am a somewhat experienced diver (10 years cert ~325 dives, most in NJ) and would like t continue my pursuit of more technical diving with a CCR rather than OC.

The question I have is, why a HH? What makes this such a better unit over the others? I realize this is a very subjective response on your parts, but what attracted you to it over say an Evolution or a Meg? What has made you happy with it?

Lastly, I do have a concern over any unit (diving or otherwise) that comes from a relatively small company that seems to require so much manufacturer assistance/service. Does anyone ever worry about what would/could happen to the HH if suddenly these guys went out of business? Obviously, I'm not wishing that on anyone, but it is a large concern for me.

Ok, well.... influence away. I'm looking forward to your reasoning. Hopefully by next year (after my Aug wedding is over) I'll be in the market for one of these.

Thanks for your time.

I had a look at the machine and I have to say it is very very well made with options coming soon. I will have a try but I'm sure it is ok. If I haven't already spent my money on something else...

Why to go for it? You live in NJ so HH is close to you and this is something very valuable. Anyway don't forget that HH did a contract with the USNavy or army (I don't remember) to deliver units. This is a good answer to your doubt about delivery time etc. Usually a government won't give a contract to someone who's not able to accomplish the request.

Hope that help.

Cheers

Nad

Re: Convince me to buy a HH

First go find the HH vs Meg thread. While they are both good units, if you are starting from scratch, it looks like HH is the better unit, giving more value and much better electronics at this point in the game.

As to your second point about a one man show.... Well it's one of the reasons I went with the O2ptima. DiveRite stands behind the unit. It's not a one man show.

It seems that most of the other companies are.

If their principal gets hit by a the proverbial Taxi it's anyone's guess if their companies would survive.

I discovered during the last 2 months that you're wrong, there could be bigger companies hit by a bus (this is big enough).

It is just question of organisation and I think this is the main lack in general.

Sorry, just my frustrated 2 cents.

Cheers

Hey Richie,

We've got plans in place here if I get run over by a Bus. Julie (my wife) has the Paco-the-Pool-Boy lined up to take my place...

But if I get run over by a Taxi, then Tricia (my Accountant) will start running the joint. You guys are so totally hosed if that ever happens! Bean-counters and all...

Kevin (Who is wondering why he ever agreed to hire a "Pool-Boy" in the first place... ).

She's a heck of a lot better looking than you.... And she proved herself to be an able business person at BTS when you opted to stay home to spy on the Pool Boy!

Yeah, well at least I ruined HIS weekend...

I'm taking Jules to 'Vegas for DEMA, just to keep an eye on her...

Actually, we're thinking of doing our 10 year vows again, but this time with Class and Style - in one of those Wedding Chapels you find everywhere there with Elvis officiating - not like the cheezy first one in the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Wayfarers Chapel overlooking the Pacific Ocean...

((Good thing she doesn't read Rebreather World...))

I'm not worried about either senario as doubt whether buses or taxis actually run past Polk Hill Road. Just glad UPS, FEDX, DHl, etc. do, although they tell me it's a rural delivery address for them. And based on my experience with both a Meg head and new HH, Tricia can do a pretty good job of getting things out. So, going HH is a safe bet either way, IMO.

Still, Kevin you can't retire anytime soon. Just keep on working and turning out all those great ideas.

Regards,

Bill

Re: Convince me to buy a HH

Reason I would purchase A Hammer Head versus a Meg

1) Canister Lid Design
2) Batteries are out of the loop
3) Banana Style connection for O2 cells
4) Deco computers included with solenoid controllers, O2 monitoring
5) Works on several diiferent battery style all common throughout the world

Reason I would purchase a Meg versus a Hammer Head

1) Can calibrate using O2 percent other than 100 percent
2) Well tested in cave country were I would dive it
3) Already own a VR3 with CCR Pin

Both units are bullet proof, well built open design to add different size tanks. Both unit offer radial scrubbers of varying sizes.

Good Luck
