HH Clip alternative

Dear List,

Although the clip provisions that come with the HH are of unimpeachable quality, there is always some way to improve...

For my diving needs, the protrusion of the clip mounts interfered with the dry glove cuffs, and made the addition of clips a real burden. To list but a few of the shortcomings: adding clips makes for dangling stuff which is annoying; the clips flap around which is equally annoying, especially when attempting to tame them while wearing dry gloves; when donning or doffing the gear, it was annoying to have the hansets in all manner of positions, turning the HHs on at the least opportune moments; the clips also add a lot of length when clipped off which was undesirable.

The solution to these issues is illustrated in the following pictures. A ss clip was altered with the TIG welder to yield a zip-tied addition to the Swagelok fitting. Now, the HHs sit with the piezo switches pointing foward when clipped to the chest D-rings, thereby preventing untimely activation, putting them in a perfect position for easy attachment and release single handedly while wearing dry gloves. In this way they do not add to the HH profile since they follow the cable. They are also stiff enough to remain aligned as illustrated. One can hold the HH with a gloved hand and actuate the clip, it's that "tight".

Record speed when donning and doffing of the gear with minimal inconvenience. There is nothing like the positive feel of tight gear!

Re: HH Clip alternative

DSix36,

You are too kind! Immitation is the ultimate form of flattery... ;-)

All it took was removing the swivel bit on the clip and using TIG welding rod stock with a couple of tacks. Think it might have been 1/8 or 3/32 rod. Used 312ss to mate with the clip material. The channel used for the swivel bit provides just the right clearance for the zip tie to fit snuggly.

Enjoy the benefits, another one that occurs to me is that the HHs no longer find themselves dragging all over creation or getting pinched between the 'breather and hard places. That was really aggravating.

Now the rest in one of the most protected spots on the machine.

No regrets! It is slick, hope you like it!

Re: HH Clip alternative

Looks nice and very usable. It will be alot better than me trying to find a way to keep them off the deck,

Last weekend I almost had a OC diver plop his tank on my secondary. Hurt the hell out of my hand, but I saved my HH.

Thanks for the idea and your blessings.

Don
