| Do you "Nose breathe" involuntarily? Topic brought up on another thread - do you sometimes have difficulty not breathing through your nose on a Rebreather? If so: 1. Did you have this problem on open-circuit? 2. Does your Rebreather have OTS or back-mounted counterlungs? 3 What ways have you found to avoid or control it? Thanks for any feedback! Neil |

| Re: Do you "Nose breathe" involuntarily? I did for the first six months or so. I've noticed in the last year that I don't. It was a waste of gas and caused buoyancy issues but took a while to cure. I must have been doing it on OC all along and not realized it until I switched to rebreathers. JimG |

Neil Pool time with a mirror gives immediate and embarassing feedback. I carry a thick plexi-glas mirror with me all the time. Terrific as a signal device, bubble catcher and vanity tool. ![]() |

| Re: Do you "Nose breathe" involuntarily? I naturally breathe through my nose on the surface (and my buddy naturally breathes through this mouth). Like Jim after a few dives you train yourself not to exhale through your nose underwater. It took a conscious effort for me over a couple of dives but it works, if you want it to. Awareness was key. On OC I probably exhaled through my nose without realizing it. It didn't matter anyway so I never really thought about it. On a rebreather though it was a different story. For me it was simple gas management, when I exhaled through my nose I used more diluent and sometimes needed a fill between dives. Now I can sit back with the other rebreather divers and watch the OC divers switch tanks (especially in rough seas). Westwinds.

| Re: Do you "Nose breathe" involuntarily? In my early days of training on a Rebreather in our local spots doing all manner of weird acrobatics and drills. Head down with BMCL and a little bit of work would induce the nose suction but not really trying to breath through it. Haven't had the sensation much in the last year or so but I might again when I start taking the beast through the caverns and sinks. |

| DeepDevilDiver Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Do you "Nose breathe" involuntarily? I'm beginner in RBW...so i saw too that i have some difficulties to manage the "nose breathing"... First, in OC, I was often exhaling by my nose in my mask to flush the water. Second, i manage it in CCR to not waste diluant...and i did a fine adjustment on my mask. Finally, i think i have more difficulties to manage inhalation (by my nose) in CCR, when i'm in effort. I'm beginner, so, i thonk i'll be able to manage it in future... |

| Re: Do you "Nose breathe" involuntarily? Never found myself breathing through my nose involuntarily. I have had to train myself to put up with a little damp in my mask on CCR though, otherwise I tended to semi-clear it too often and waste dil...
