![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Commercial Diving - Science related I am graduating from uni this year hopefully with a Masters in Chemistry, is there any way I could use this to get into commercial diving or research work? I would love to get into salvage but would like to use the science background as well. Any advice would be helpful, if not about diving info on working on a research vessel would be great if anyone has any. |

My father has been a commercial diver for ~30 years and I know what it is like ![]() |

I wouldn't like to go clearing out blocked pipes, welding or stuff like that.![]() For hobbies you pay the money you get from working, this is my opinion... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Commercial Diving - Science related it's more than the mixing work and pleasure scenario. I have been a contract diver for 10 years. Have a BSc in marine biology and have worked as a commercial inshore salvage/construction diver. I've been on science projects all over the world. let's put it this way...science world won't pay, commercial world does pay, but you have a short shelf life and the work is everything but glamorous. Easiest and only ticket into scientific diving is via a scientific diver program through an AAUS institution or the like. There are many jobs as research technicians for NOAA that use diving as a tool, but good luck with a fulltime job as a scientific diver...doesn't exist at the moment. |
