I always get a bit of moisture in the exhale one way valve that gurgles from spit, but usually takes a while to build up. Was getting some gurgling straight away (oring is at the top of this hose) and was deciding whether it was leakage of just build up. Then I got busy with failing cells and checking what they where doing, then it was all over red rover. Been looking to change out all o-rings on the unit for ages, just struggling to get parts for it. Now have no choice. Matt |

Is your home build a back mount counter lung design? |

What unit/counter lung configuration were you using? yup, draeger dolphin with the usual back mounted CL, was all fine until i tipped over to look at something and slosh came the drano down the inhale hose and i took a good sized breath of it, burned everything up to the glottis, voice went away for 3 days, everything tasted like metal for a week, puked and puked until nothing to puke, then puked some more. ![]()

That might have been a good idea but as we were offshore, I used seawater then lots of fresh water. It did not seem to do much good, though I'm sure it helped. Like Ron I got a good dose. The stuff is vile, and will make you gag and vomit. I read in "Mastering Rebreathers" by Jeff Bozanic of a diver who after experiencing a caustic cocktail had his larnx(sp?) spasm causing him not to be able to breathe. The diver had the presence of mind to not ascend, avoiding an embolism, and rinsed his mouth out with seawater until he was able to go to bailout. Hats off to him. I would not like to repeat my experience. Peter |
