| Metabolic make-up drill..?? After perusing Mr. Gurr's advice on closed circuit ascents when the shit hits the fan, he mentions, albeit briefly, an option that he terms the "metabolic make-up drill". There is insuf***ient information in the book (Technical Diving from the Bottom Up) to derive an opinion, so I was wondering whether anyone had any experience of this technique or would care to expand on the drill and list any critical details/ equipment. If no-one posts we'll take it its a bad idea cheers paul channing |

With the automatic injection isolated, an ascent to the surface is made and the manual injection activated as appropriate". Bollocks, I've just realised it is for "drifting P02 readings" I thought it was no Po2 readings (as it mentions the cause being failed oxygen sensors), he goes on to say: "...most closed circuit rebreathers will probably not generate shallow water hypoxia on a direct ascent anyway, espicially in the sport diving depth ranges with a Po2 set point in excess of 1 bar on the bottom." He should have stated that this is for normoxic dil. Anyway, the operative words in the above statement being "most" and "probably not". hmmm, I'll give that a miss. Well, thats why its good to read and re-read things right folks What caught my attention is that I havn't seen it elsewhere in the book, or anywhere else for that matter. it looked as if it was a case of: "aye...ssshhh...keep it quiet right, but:... blah, blah, blah... *wink* aye, aye." particularly as it was a footnote and in smallprint..!!right, I'm off before I get accosted for casting aspersions against the great man ![]() |
