Lead Times on Rebreather's

Does anyone (collectively) know the wait times on the following units?

Inspiration (Vision)

Meg

Optima

In addition, does traveling to ISC mean you can pick-up a Meg irregardless of wait times?

Thanks!

Re: Lead Times on Rebreather's

The lead time required by ISC at this time is 3 months.

Traveling to Washington typically means that you are taking the training with Leon. Otherwise, the unit (or just the head) gets shipped to your instructor when completed and paid for.

Per the Dive Rite Express web site, it is two weeks or less.

Do yourself a huge favor and DON'T buy on delivery schedules!!! Take a long hard look at what you need and want, then buy accordingly. This advise comes to you free, from a guy who can never wait for anything! Seriously though, if you just have to have it right away, look at some of the used units for sale.

Re: Lead Times on Rebreather's

I agree that these time windows should not rank at the top of the scale. The first thing to consider is the unit. This being said, however, delivery schedules, turn times on repairs, parts availability, number of dealers where you can get service, etc. is part of what I would factor into my decision once getting past my initial selection of unit based upon its construction.

Inspiration (Vision)
I have just placed an order for a Vision Inspiration for someone 2 days ago, and was informed lead time is now 3-4 months - and reducing in 2007...

sometimes instructors have pre-orders or special leads on getting a unit faster, i know this to be particularly true for the evo/vision inspo and the optima is very readily available...

Once you decide on a unit and then on an instructor (s), ask if they have any leads. i would not exactly choose an instructor based on weather they can get you in the water faster but if you happen to like a variety of instructors and one of them has a lead then i'd go with them.

resist the impulse, take your time and try and make a decition you are going to be happy with in the long run.

Re: Lead Times on Rebreather's

Just out of curiosity, any reason why you've not mentioned the Prism? Or even the KISS?

Turn around times for initial purchase should not be the main criteria, function and safety IMHO should be up there in the top 5.

Re: Lead Times on Rebreather's

DaveC,

I had pretty much limited my decision to the Inspiration or Meg, and was curious about the Optima, but I do not know much about the KISS, specifically its electronics, so never considered it. Same with the Prism. The Vision electronics scare me, based on what I have read about them on this site. I am in the process of ordering a Meg now, supported by the lack of negative postings on this site. It seems to be a very hardy device well proven and heavily used. I am investigating the prospect of having HH electronics installed instead of the ISC stock devices. I wasn't basing my decision too heavily on lead times, although the Meg has a very reasonable one. I wish I had the opportunity to dive every single model out there first, but I figure (based on the lack of them) that it would be an easy thing to sell the Meg in the event that I found a unit I preffered more in the future. My instructor did recommend the KISS a few years ago, but he dives the Meg himself, and that certainly influenced my decision. Why do you like the KISS and the Prism?

In March there is a dive show BTS and it is in Northern NJ, You might want to wait as most if not all of the Manufactures have a presence at the show.
