| PRISM DIVER & LUVIN IT! Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Lead Times on Rebreather's DaveC, This was a thread that ran not too long ago http://www.rebreatherworld.com/new-r...-decide-2.htmlI had pretty much limited my decision to the Inspiration or Meg, and was curious about the Optima, but I do not know much about the KISS, specifically its electronics, so never considered it. Same with the Prism. The Vision electronics scare me, based on what I have read about them on this site. I am in the process of ordering a Meg now, supported by the lack of negative postings on this site. It seems to be a very hardy device well proven and heavily used. I am investigating the prospect of having HH electronics installed instead of the ISC stock devices. I wasn't basing my decision too heavily on lead times, although the Meg has a very reasonable one. I wish I had the opportunity to dive every single model out there first, but I figure (based on the lack of them) that it would be an easy thing to sell the Meg in the event that I found a unit I preffered more in the future. My instructor did recommend the KISS a few years ago, but he dives the Meg himself, and that certainly influenced my decision. Why do you like the KISS and the Prism? The first 30 posts are interesting and then it starts to become redundant (IMHO)

| Who loves ya, baby ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Lead Times on Rebreather's LakeLover, if you want the chance to try several rebreathers have a look at Curt Bowen's post in the Announcements forum. Advanced Diver Magazine is hosting another CCR intro day, in Lakeland FL I believe. The Meg, Optima, Inspo, Evo and Kisses will be available. AFAIK the PRISM won't be there unfortunately (then again, the waiting period there is 9 months+). Well worth the time and money for the trip if you can afford it considering how much a unit and training will set you back. Nothing like some first hand experience, and getting it side-by-side on various units is great. Also, as Marty suggested, visiting the BTS show is a good idea as most likely all major manufacturers will be there (including C.C.R. with the Ouroboros and SMI with the PRISM), you can have a look at the rigs and meet the people who build them.

Same with the Prism. Why do you like the KISS and the Prism? Hello DaveC, the KISS is probably the simplest manual CCR and the Prism is the simplest electronic CCR and simplicity is a good thing from a reliability/troubleshooting/emergency management stand point. The Prism is an over the shoulder design with a radial scrubber and consequently has the lowest work of breathiing in all positions, it's also smaller and lighter than anything other than the Sports Kiss. And judging by your pic, you dive in very cold water. The Prism radial scrubber is optimised for cold water diving as it has the best insulating qualities due to the in to out flow and the outer bucket being made out of thick plastic, the best insulating material as it's slowest to transfer heat. The US Geoligical Survey has used the Prism extensively in Alaska. But do yourself a favor and try to read up on all the different units and the BTS show in March is a great place to see all the units and talk to the manufacturters and some users. Good luck, -Andy |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Lead Times on Rebreather's It was about that when we purchased three units, but some folks I know in the general area of where I live purchased 4 in about the April / May period of 2006 and I believe they are picking them up in Jan. of 2007. Which is about 9 months and what I believe Caveseeker7 quoted. SMI had alot to contend with when they moved from the west coast to their pressent location, plus build units. But now that they're in place and up and running they're back log is caught up and the turn around times are getting shorter. I'd say give Sharron or Jan a call and ask what they're expected times are now. They're very easy people to talk and extreemly helpfull with any question you may have. Dave WHats the lead time on a prism? I looked at getting one but was told the lead time was 12 months ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Lead Times on Rebreather's The KISS is probably the simplest manual CCR Yes I agree - In fact that is what my buddy dives and there are times I'm envious due to the lack of clutter on his chest. Nice and clean in the front.Quote: The Prism is the simplest electronic CCR and simplicity is a good thing from a reliability/troubleshooting/emergency management stand point. Couldn't agree more. Other then the clutter on the chest, which you do get used too, I really like my Prism. In fact there have been times that I'm glad I bought it. After seeing some Evo guys predive and then jump in the water, the direct reading on the secondary is an added bonus IMHO. Its nice to be able to turn off you're electronics at a whim and fly the unit manual when you want. We're in some pretty cold water up here. This time of the year its down to about 36 F on average, depending on where you are and the Prism handles great. My bud and I were in the Rockport area last weekend and did a two hr dive in 41 F water and with the thermo protection we were wearing, we didn't even feel it. Could have easily done an additional hr.The two main advantages I've seen over with mine over the KISS is the HUD and the Radial vs Axil. But this in no way hinders the chap diving the KISS. In fact, at points during the dive, he laughs at me because I have to scroll the secondary vs the KISS having the read out on the Cells right there. A digital display for the Prism would be SOOOOO nice.
