![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | will dive for food/o2 and sorb We as a group most be the poorest divers out there. I mean that we dive with expired or used sorb, with regs that are not rated for o2. We enter the water with broken gear, or the wrong sorb for the units. Since we all seem to be penny less, i suggest that we all stake out our own freeway offramp with a sign " will dive for food/o2/sorb" then maybe we will be able to dive with fresh sorb. I as a homebuilder probably have no room to talk here but somebody has to say it. There are only two scubapro regs rated for o2 use, the mk20/mk25 with the right seals. Is two hundered dollars worth a trip to the burn ward. If your sorb is out of date, trash it it is not that expensive. You probably spend more on gas going to the site then for fresh sorb. Use breathing grade o2, i am guilty here too. We have no idea what is in those welding o2 cylinders. i have made some good friends on this group but i don't have the money to go to your funerals, so don't die doing something stupid. rick |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: will dive for food/o2 and sorb I don't think we are especially mean, I think rebreather divers tend to be a bit more technically minded and less inclined to take all the industry sales pitches on faith. Most divers don't tend to question what the industry says... a big corporation... lie to us? Surely not... Why would they do that...? Cheers, Stuart

Look at the staff of any research university. A cleverer bunch of people you are unlikely to find but common sense is a very rare commodity. No wonder Cee Bee despairs. Charlie I guess a sensible diver is better than a clever diver. I can only speak for myself but every single one of the incidents that came close to sending me for a dirt nap was because I'd either not followed the rules or got a little overexcited (case in point, my biggest bend: 15min at 90m with 40min of deco? Wow! I love this new VPM stuff!!! Oh, I'm bent, I wonder how that happened...). Intelligence doesn't necessarily go with common sense. Well there has to be some explanation for Blair being re-elected... Cheers, Stuart

A cleverer bunch of people you are unlikely to find but common sense is a very rare commodity. Like the joke about idiot testing using properly calibrated standard idiots where a mil-spec idiot has to have a relevant PhD.I don't know if we are more technical. I happen to do physics and computers for a living and that helps a bit on diving but most of the guys I meet on the dive boats of the English South Coast aren't much different. Certainly when my diving was dominated by the old usenet group uk.rec.scuba we could discuss physics, mathematics, computing et. al. in a diving context and usually find we had the people to come to proper conclusions. OK that is where I developed the desire for a Rebreather and made a choice but the features I chose it for have paid off over the years so it wasn't that bad. I'm not poor but I confess when I want a techie fix I reach for the old IDA64. I just bought it a nice new Dräger port so I can plug the VR3 in and know my ppO2. I will happily sit down with a pile of 30 year old seals mending a stream of bubbles and feel good about it although any dive I do on it could probably be done more conveniently on the old Yellow box. Ho hum... Perhaps I'm not as sane as I thought...
