Even forgetting the fact that the EAC's are significantly more expensive, are not environmentally friendly and not easier to travel with the duration comparison is simply not true. Silent Diving had a side by side comparison done a year or so ago by an independent lab and the EAC's not only did not perform as well they were lacking to the extent that the adapters are no longer available. I personally have nothing against the EAC's as the company is local, they are a nice idea, and they do make changing scrubber easier but I really resent false hype of advantages. Comparing apples to apples EAC's simply are an easier way to change scrubber that one must pay a high price in a couple of ways over the traditional scrubber types. Mark,I am not sure that I would consider SDS an expert on EAC. M |

M They are not and the tests were done by an independent lab in NY. This was not a hostile situation, actually quite the opposite as SDS wanted to carry and promote the EAC's as an option but were required for liability reasons to make sure they were suitable as an alturnative. SDS spent in the low 5 figures getting it tested only to find out that they were not equivalent and were very disappointed. I don't think there was a great difference but it was enough to rule out one to one substitution. As this information was never made public or used in any way by AP or SDS to their advantage there is no axe to grind. EAC's certainly have their place in the rebreather world but it should be recognized that there is a bit of a trade off. BTW - How are you liking your new frame and I am curious as to why you didn't go with the one Enrique makes? |

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: the extended air advantage Hi Steve, The "easier to clean" reference is against the standard Dolphin Scrubber Case, the EAC case doesn't have the springs and the perforated plate that always holds onto some of the sorb and there isn't the bolt running up the center of the EAC cartridge so it is easier to scrub out. Plus both ends of the EAC canister unscrew... basically, much easier to rinse out/wipe down / clean. I guess the assumption there is... you DO clean your scrubber... !Ryan |
