I have not used it yet but am impressed with it's build quality. It looks like it will do what I want it to, and that's get my head further out of the water when on the surface. I'll let you know how I get on with it once I have dived it. |

I'm not sure how closely related the 55# torus doubles wing and the 42# Vertex are related... but the 42# Vertex isn't going to be on the market until next month.. I fly to Mexico to train on my Meg on the 25th of January.. and am afraid my OxyCheq 18 pound wing wont be.... buoyant enough... though I love it for single tank diving =) Stuart has a photo of it from DEMA http://www.rebreatherworld.com/dema-...rtex#post77098 Patrick sold the prototype at DEMA.. he's trying to remember to whom so that I can inquire as to how they like it.... You know how it goes... see shiney, want shiney.. but want to hear that someone else who has shiney likes it ![]() I'm probably going to end up getting it anyway.. just would like to hear a good review on it first ![]() -Take care Scott |

![]() ![]() | Re: Who has the prototype Oxycheq Vertex from DEMA? Scott, I own the Vertex 42 from Pat. Made a deal with him prior to DEMA to purchase the prototype. I own three Oxycheq wings. Two for my doubles and a 40 for my Meg. I changed from the 40 to the 42. Here is what I sent to Pat after diving the wing for a couple of weeks: " Just a note to tell you how much I enjoy the Vertex 42 wing! I have been diving the Signature series #40 on my Megladon rebreather and did not believe it could get any better until I slapped on the Vertex 42. The wing is streamlined, incredibly well balanced and bulletproof. The shape is ideal for a rebreathers that tend to carry a little extra weight at the bottom due to inverted tanks. The Vertex 42 vents gas flawlessly. Often as you approach the end of the dive and are close to neutral buoyancy you need to vacate the last little bit of gas out of the bag. With most wings, due to their "U" shape, you must go slightly vertical and vent from the hose vice the rear dump to get the last bit of gas vacated. Not so with the Vertex 42! Simply stay horizontal in the water, lift your tail slightly and pull the rear dump cord. The gas moves effortlessly from one side of the cell to the other and out the rear dump. This is a sweet wing! It is amazing how such a small design change can significantly improve the trim and gas flow characteristics of a wing." If there is one thing I would change on the wing it would be to move the inflator elbow to the left two inches. Right now it contacts my canister. A slight change in position would clear the canister and lie much more streamlined. That said, even with a low profile backplate it does not pose a problem. I like this wing. It has just the right amount of bouyancy for a rebreather, is streamline, and is easy to vent. I would recommend it to any rebreather diver. Mark |
