C'mon be serious.I hope you are not suggesting deliberately inducing a CO2 hit to see if you could handle it. The idea is to get off the loop before it becomes a problem. Don't / won't dive a VR3, but what does that have to do with anything? It isn't about clever. It's about practice and maintaining skills. The question was about doing a bail out to OC and then doing an ascent. If you can't do it you need to practice till you can and if you aren't willing to put the effort into mastering it take up golf. You'll live a lot longer. The comment was to illustrate that going open circuit is not as simple as is made believe by the above posts. I have first hand knowledge of CO2 hits that are too swift to calmly switch. Think D. Shaw, John Routley etc. RMV for John hit 90 when he had to bail. Are you prepared for 90RMV? Getting off the loop before its a problem is not always an option. Its fact, get used to it. Thread on this very subject going on here->http://www.rebreatherworld.com/gener...-high-co2.html When bailing with a VR3 with multiple Dil and stages you must first switch to OC, then disable the Dil gas and enable the OC gases for your look ahead deco. Dead easy when your in the sh1t. Then as Phi says, complacency. "Your not as clever as you think you are" adequetly discribes it. Now add all the above together. Do not confuse the curtness of my post for any antagonistic attitude. None intended. I didnt think I would have to spell this out.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Pre-Poll Topics Wanted OK...lets start over.... I'm in full agreement with what Phi says about complacency etc. I agree that under the effects of CO2 *nothing* is simple or predictable. My reference was to the mechanics of doing the switch and the ascent because of other issues. I stand by my original position that if not impaired by CO2 this is simple stuff. My guess is that everyone will react unpredictably to CO2 WRT what they can still function with. Other than using a BOV to make bailing while impaired easier I see no way to manage it other than recognize it and get off the loop. I'm not so brave that if I didn't feel right that I would try open loop to remedy a possible CO2 hit. I can appreciate your reference to the VR3 but why not just bail to a table rather then increase your task load if you are stressed? So, other than maintaining your skills so you have the "muscle memory" to enhance your ability to do this stuff, in all seriousness, what do you suggest doing? As I said to Phi, I can't imagine people doing the stuff he mentioned with his reference to complacency. I believe him but I just can't imagine people being so stupid that they would dive knowing that their skills are not up to the dive they are doing or using the wrong bail out, inadequate bail out etc. etc. Perhaps I confused you for being antagonistic and perhaps you confused me for being cavelier about this stuff. Believe it, I am anything but. This is serious stuff and when you make errors you die. No second chances. Regards. Joe C'mon be serious.
