Recompression Chamber Out of Date

CONSUMER WARNING: The GSE portable chamber owned by Mad Dog Expeditions ("rental for expeditions") has an expired RINA certification (provided by the manufacturer in Italy) as of May, 2006.

MDE has been informed of this, and this portable chamber should not to be used for treatment until that certification has been reissued.

NUS, Inc.

Re: Recompression Chamber Out of Date

Question: What exactly is an "RINA" number by the manufacturer? It is not a government thing is it? Will the chamber not work? Is it not safe?
Is it just a BS thing for the manufacturer to get residuals on it's unit?

What is NUS?

I don't understand your post.

Louis

Its never been LEGAL to use in the US... The FDA will only approve portable chambers to 4psi, and only for the treatment of acute mountain sickness.

There was another chamber being sold in the US (chamberlite), It had to be pulled otherwise the company would have lost their certification on their approved chambers.. They still might be available for sale outside of the US, but chambers for most uses fall under FDA juristration in the US.

Use of any of these chambers in areas under US juristriction may expose the operator to legal issues..

Re: Recompression Chamber Out of Date

I take it you guys are the only ones in North America who can do a RINA certification for such a chamber?

Just curious...what certifications are required for recompression chambers?

A little google research yields: RINA and NUS.

The first does ship hull-type certifications which apparently include recompression chambers and the latter builds very cool "personal" submarines for clients who would apparently not blink at the cost of a closed circuit rebreather.

The Italian certification organisation for all things marine.
Pretty much means that certification has experied and needs to be renewed.
Since it's Italian and the chamber is in the US I doubt there is a legal requirement.
Kinda like an expired TÜV certification on your German car in the US.
Doesn't matter as long as it meets local standards.

The post is unclear if the chamber DESIGN needs recertification, or the individual chamber ownded By MDE is out of test and needs to be recertified as safe..

If it was me and was bent I would preferred to be fixed up in an out of test chamber than not fixed up at all

I second that!

I also am wondering about the purpose of why this thread was started. I also think someone is trying to stir-up something with Andrew, and don't think this is the proper place to do it.
