| S21 M.I.B. ![]() ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Hi all, Thanks to this forum, almost all the rebreather divers are aware of the current-limited O2 sensors and how it could affect the pO2 reading. Unfortunately some accidents in a recent past, show that it's definitely an issue, even with new sensors. Just changing sensors every 18 months is not enough and a friend of mine had some faulty cells fresh from their package. People have been discussing since a while about how to test the sensors at an O2 pressure higher then 1.0 at the surface (preferably higher than 1.6). Most of the rebreather divers don't have access to a pressure pot (quite expensive). And even if they have, they don't pressure test their sensors on a regular basis. I was glad to see at DEMA that Ron Micjian, one of the Rebreather World most active members, came up with a very nice portable (and affordable!) pressure pot to test 3 sensors at the same time. Sounds to me like a must! It's small and light, and extremely easy to use. You connect it to an analyzer, increase the pressure. Voila! The analyzer is used as a display for the sensors. Depending on how often you dive with your rebreather, testing the sensors should be part of a monthly routine. Sensors decay over time and their inability to read high pO2 should be the main reason to discard them. Age doesn't mean a lot. Good job, Ron. Wearing a tuxedo at the Rebreather World party was already impressive. But designing this pressure pot is even better. Keep on having some good ideas like that. It definitely improves safety for the rebreather divers. You'll maybe get a Rebreather World Award for that next year! Cheers

"Why wouldn't you want to know if your sensors were current limited before you packed all your gear, hired a boat and dived to 20ft only to realize a sensor pooched" ? Seems to me a bench tester for sensors make a lot of sense. I for one will be using Ron's sensor gizmo.

From all of the discussion, this is the conclusion I have come to as well. I'll be using a pressure pot to test cells before heading out on a trip. Then, I'll spike the cells, on every dive, at 20fsw with O2 to ensure they will go above my intended dive set point. Avoiding the pressure pot test could waste a lot of money. Avoiding the test at 20fsw could waste a life.

| ~~~~~ #417 ~~~~~ Current Rebreather/s: | Re: An O2 sensor pressure pot finally available Ron's pressure pot is not available yet. I *thought* he said it would be ready in a couple of months. Retail price is USD$375. This includes the pressure pot, gauge, a BC inflator hose adapter and O2 meter. Ron's site is here: TMIShop Edit1: It's not on the site yet (at least not when I was there last). But, I gave the link so you knew where to get it from. Edit2: I just noticed on the flyer he states availability in January.

Thanks for the kudos Cedric, ( i will be sending you that $5.00 soon : ) hehe the introductory price is 375, however if a few of y'all would help me with first batch costs, I will sell the first 20 pre-orders for only $300, paypal me 300 to ron@tmishop.com. I can also take a visa or MC over the phone or via email. My machinist has stated that Jan 1st he will have 10 done, and then more materials will be coming in and a batch of 50 should be available in the middle of feb.(I am in mexico diving and training from 10jan to 3 feb, so wont get anything done then) The system will come with the pot, interconnect cable, flow restrictor, tubing, and an analyser with a remote sensor port. thanks for the interest folks
