Talking Numpty question - masks

Now dont say I didnt warn you

I did the first 4 OW dives on my Inspo mod 1 this past weekend. It was a very enjoyable and at times challenging weekend.

To be honest I was pretty happy with the way most things went, this despite a couple of little problems with the unit.

The thing that bothered me most was that my current mask leaks like a bleedin sieve, this meant I ended up venting a lot of gas and with a fair bit of water in the exhale lung on a couple of dives (I think I'm letting water into the loop when I clear my mask )

So bit of advice for a numpty please. I want to replace my mask with a low volume version. Which would you choose?

TIA

Alan

Re: Numpty question - masks

I use Cressi Minima... 25 bucks from a few different online retailers, about 50 retail from brick and mortar shops.. can get it with a black skirt/opaque frame, so no icky side lights or reflections for photo/cave diving..

http://cressi.it/intro.php?lang=us&i...to=18&m=scheda

Just be forewarned.. everyone will call you Batman if you wear it

When you try on masks, try them on with a regulator in your mouth .. makes a difference

Though the minima is pretty soft rubber... they leaked a little on me for the first 2-3 dives, then molded to my face

Take care

Re: Numpty question - masks

I use the original Scubapro Frameless which they unfortunately do not make anymore.

Here is a link to the new Frameless (looks the same to me).

SCUBAPRO UWATEC UK ~~ xxx[Title]xxx

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

Re: Numpty question - masks

I use an Oceanic Shadow, it's also a frameless mask with low volume. It comes in techie black and girlie clear... I obviously bought a black one

They also make great backup masks.

Cheers

Rich

Re: Numpty question - masks

I second the Scubapro frameless mask. I have a hard time finding a good sealing mask and this one fits perfectly.

Also second the suggestion of taking the barrel in when trying on the masks.

The one that fits best...

Personally, I'm a big fan of the Mares X-Vision. Low volume, great field of view, and most comfy mask I've ever owned.

Re: Numpty question - masks

I had/have an oceanic shadow frameless mask and i hated it. everyone sung the praisis of super low volume masks, so when i lost the one i was using several years ago, i baught one. it fogged no matter how much tooth past i put on it. it was tollerable with the use of sea gold anti fog gel but man, if i forgot to put it on i was in trouble. One of the shop assitants here told me he even tried using a dremle tool with a buffer and tooth past and it still fogged horribly. I'm not sure what the deal is, if it's because the glass is so close the the skin that the heat from your body causes condensation or if somehow the type of tempered glass is more susceptible to fogging or what.

due to the seel not allowing me to hold any pressure in the mask, i retired it. i went back to a Mares Lirica Mask style mask and life is good again, no foggin and a better seal.

Re: Numpty question - masks

I have a couple Mares X-visions that I like.
I just bought an Atomic Aquatics frameless that I also really like - good for stuffing in your pocket as a back-up to.
They both have really good field of vision.
What ever you get, try it on first to make sure it fits your face well rather than just going on what works for someone else.
