DiveSafe insurance vs. DAN US

I was getting ready to renew my DAN equipment insurance policy and noticed that they do not cover equipment "washed overboard, lost, ditched, or that fell off" which I thought used to be covered in the "old days". Since this is in bold print I assume it's been added in the last year or so.

All that said anyone have thoughts on DiveSafe Insurance vs. DAN US for overall coverage and equipment insurance. Seems like Dive Safe does up to $2500 for equipment lost during "a covered accident".

Re: DiveSafe insurance vs. DAN US

When we looked at the difference 2 years ago, the choice boiled down to:
a) do we need coverage for "mysterious disappearance" (not theft),
OR
b) do we want reimbursement for loss (as opposed to replacement).

I suggest you carefully review the policies to see if they still differ in these dimensions.
Reimbursement was our choice, and we simply made sure our stuff
wasn't likely to be dropped, either overboard or on the dive.
Theft is covered under both policies, as I recall.

Yes I belive you are correct, I hate having to be an attorney just to make sure I'm getting a benefit from my hard earned $$ that are not going for dive equipment. I also like that fact the DAN does good for the diving community as a whole where DiveSafe seems to just be an insurance firm.

You might also consider a conversation with you Home Insurance Agent. I had a long specific discussion about my CCR and all possible types of losses. The result was adding a "All Perils" coverage to my policy. It cost about $150 more per year and I get the advantage that it covers more than just CCR.
