Clipping off Reels / SMBs etc

Guys,

I just clip my Reels / SMBs off on my waist D rings, does anyone else do anything different to streamline them selves?

I have seen a few pouches that connect to backplates that streamline things...

what do you all do?

Until Monday I clipped my main reel off to the rail on the bottom of my Classic Kiss. Jumped in on the Moldavia, felt a jolt and thought "I know what that is" . Looked down, and £100 worth of inflatable blob with bottle and reel is doing a fast descent.

Went down the line, then headed back in the direction where the shot was overhead. There it was, just poking out of the sand! Reclaimed it and thought, hmmmm, must find somewhere better to rig it. Lucky b%"£$^d!

So, I too will be interested to hear where people rig them!

DSMB and reel plus exploration reel on rear D-ring where I clip the lower clip from my stage and backup reel in the same place on the other side.

Cheers,

Dave Cooper.

londonsean69 is an unknown quantity at this point
I have the Halcyon storage pac on my BP. It just bolts on, although this does make it a little fiddly to get to the bolts on my bands (maybe try a cable tie?).
The DSMB just stuffs up the back, totally secure and well out of the way.
I usually use a spool for my bags, but when I carry a reel (either penetration or bag) I just clip it off to the rear d-ring on my crotch strap. Streamlined, secure and easily got at. However, don't sit on it , they tend to hurt.

I suppose you'd refer to it as a reel pain in the a%^e?

In my OC days, the best place I found to stow my reels etc, was on a "butt-ring", a 50mm D-Ring threaded at the top of the crotch strap at the back. In the water this was perfect, the reels would be out of the way, in the slipstream of the tanks etc, brilliant. On the boat it was a pain as the tanks would sit on and break the reels if I forgot, so I'd generally enter the water with the reel on a D-ring, then clip it off to the butt-ring once in the water or at the bottom. However with my Rebreather (YBOD), the shape of it is such, that I can't reach a butt-ring (my twinset was bootless, so there ws room to access this ring.)

It's a shame, as I really liked this positioning on my OC Rig. At the moment I'm also using the hip d-rings, but find the danglies all a bit unnecessary. The other option I will play with at sometime (and again this originated during the development of my OC rig) if to have a round ring, on a length of bungee threaded through a hole in the bottom corner of the backplate and tied off to a hole at the top of the backplate, using 4 strands of bungee (or one strand that goes up-down-up-down) I found that there was sufficient strength to hold the D-ring in place with the weight of a reel on, but when I wanted the reel, or to stow the reel, I could grab the ring, and pull about a foot of slack enabling easy access. When released it would spring back into position like a large scale retractor stowing the reel further back and more out of the way than on a hip-ring. Again this worked really well, but was surpassed by the butt-ring.

Might give someone some inspiration... (excuse the pun!!)

Sounds intriguing, but struggling to visualise the bungee option. Don't suppose you have a any pics Padowan?

Stuart,

the halcyon pack can be seen here: http://www.extreme-exposure.com/acc/...essories.shtml
It just bolts to the backplate, provided you have the holes in the right place. I use it for storing a Lift bag/SMB

I clip my primary reel to the rear d-ring on the crotch strap just like in OC and have a spool in my pocket. Sometimes I put the reel on the hip but find it to be more in the way there.
