Carry-on My Meg?

I'm going down to Key West at the end of the month to do the Ghost Fleet, and don't want to check my Meg. Has anyone carried on their unit this month in the US? I won't have the cylinders, but don't want any problem with TSA at screening. If it is going to be an issue I will ship it.
I appreciate any feedback.

Thanks.
Louis

Re: Carry-on My Meg?

Not this month--but I have carried it on in the past without issue. A little extra TSA scrutiny, but not much.

I know of others who have carried them on without issue in the past month. They report the same thing--a little extra scrutiny, but not much.

i have taken it all over the nation and international as carry on. only once have they ever opened it. in fact after our last little scare i thought i would have an issue with it in carry on with TSA. They did not even look at the bag!!! That being said i am prepared with all the documents i can carry about what it is. i suggest printing this info and carrying it with you. if the first TSA agent has an issue you do have a right to get a supervisor to look over it. most of the time there will be a TSA agent around that understands the "diving concept". good luck, but i don't think you will need it.

Thanks All...
I will bring the necessary paperwork on the unit, and hope for the best.

Re: Carry-on My Meg?

I took mine thru Atlanta and Tampa when I flew over for the BRITANNIC a couple weeks ago. No issues at all. I was proactive and mentioned to TSA screeners they might be interested in my carry-on, and that got a chuckle from them. Atlanta didnīt even look in my bag, even though I again mentioned it might raise some eyebrows going thru x-ray. They guy just said "dive gear - no problemo."
I had a long wait flying out of Athens with about 8 security people standing around me and they kept calling others since no one knew what it was. At first they said I couldnīt take it on with me because it was made of "metal." I just looked at the guy sideways like "WTF?". Eventually they let me go.
