Life insurance - UK

Chaps (and Chapesses),

Has anyone, especially UK based divers, found a reasonably priced source of life insurance for technical diving?
Previously as part of a perk from an employer, I had a term-life insurance policy that cost very little even after full disclosure of the type of diving I do. Now without this little gem of a perk I am finding it difficult to get such insurance without needing a second mortgage!!!
Do all insurance companies employ Dick Turpin or is there one I have missed?

Ta.

Brent

I recently got a quote from Legal and General - it started out around £30 a month and then went up to £140 when I told them about the sort of diving I do. Obviously I laughed when they wrote to me asking if I'd accept the new terms.

I'm in the process of getting a quote from direct line, they seem to be much less interested.

I'll let you know what the final quote when it comes in.

Cheers

Re: Life insurance - UK

HSBC are quoting me £40 a month with partial disclosure, <75m, mixed gas etc. No experimental equipment, no cave, no solo etc.

Others are as high as £80 pm.

most company insurnace plans are set up to allow cover for employees irrespective of medical conditions / medical history / dangerous pursuits etc.

only when you get to a certain level of salary, will the insurance company need to investigate (underwrite) your personal circumstances.

this is on the assumption that with a large group of employees - there will be a wide spread of risk

with an individual insurance contract - the insurance company is investigating every request for insurance (on the basis, that only those who are a high risk and particularly need insurance, will come to them).

unfortuantely, the more "technical" the diver - the more chance of dying (in mathematical terms) and so there is a limited market to provide cover and where it is provided, the premiums will be high - having seen some of the figures above, I'm surprised (some of these look RELATIVELY low)

I thought you could not get life insurance if your rebreather was not CE marked or your insurance would be invalid.

I haven't been asked which rebreather I dive, only Depth, mixed gas use, CCR/OC as well as the reason (i.e. wreck, cave...)

HSBC asked about experimental diving equipment. I guess thats where non-CE kit would fall into. Natually I didnt tick that box.

Just to allow baselining - how much is the benefit from the policy?

Cheers,
