mmm Mouldy hoses??

Hey gang thort i would give the unit a birthday today .. after 70+hrs of use since May..06
Glad i did as the air was tasting well phooooo. ehehehhe
Yes so nice warm water with dishwashing detergent and a bottle brush though hoses. {come up a treat and very cheap}
I am normally not to concerned about mould as i rinse hoses after evry 3-4 hours or when i pack a new scruber.
Any one know of any major health issues with mouldy air???
I have heard that it could be possible maybe mould spours!!

Re: mmm Mouldy hoses??

I can't help it. I am pretty anal about things. I treat my unit after every outing (Virkon) unless I am on a multi-day outing. In that case, I rinse at the end of every day, and then I give the full treatment when I get home after the trip.

I use the bottle brush every once in a while (such as when doing my check on the mushroom valves). However, I really don't need to inasmuch as I do all of the other cleaning regularly.

Why take the chance? Isn't it better to have clean gas on every dive instead of just right after you get around to the full cleaning?

Re: mmm Mouldy hoses??

ok I've been through this with my Buddy a few times as he doesn't disinfect his breather, and I'm not always the best for stripping the unit straight away and washing but my old friend who many of you know but will remain nameless for now! ended up in hospital with pneumonia from his loop 4 times in a row.
and the my friend who sold me the unit i have now was so I'll the doctors had to be called out because he was to ill to go to them, my unit got a really good scrubbing when i got it!!!!
so at the end of the day you take your risks you may get away with it.;...but i know i don't have that much luck, and besides the exhale hose starts to stink after a wile....so out with the bottle brush and TRIGENE for me.
